I'm not bragging. I'm grateful to have a customer that allows me to do such extreme work. I got exited about all the neat shiny stuff laying around the shop. I told about it because it's really cool not to 'plug' my shop. I enjoy my work and like to share it.

I'll plug the shop now. I'll find out by friday about the new building. A 25,000 sqft facility. Room for a new Dyno and for a proper fabrication area. I'll also be glad to introduce a fe new faces at the new shop. Hopefully they will be able to handle the day to day so I can focus more on the neater stuff and product development.

The progress on that truck has been slow but dilligent and careful. Anyone who spends that much on their truck deserves the best and not what I can throw together in a few weeks. It has taken a lot longer than I'd like but some things are not under my control.

Mark my hat is off to you. You are an artful spin doctor. I have nothing more to add to this thread. Truth doesnt spin as well as bs, please get the last word in.

Don't all customers deserve the best and not something just thrown together?

This project has a lot larger scope than the 'normal' customer. I'm not just building a turbo set that I can ususally do quickly( I've had a little practice ;)). I can do a clutch, injectors, box, propane, nitrous, or a headgasket in my sleep.

We are building an engine, cooling system and charge air cooling sytem that should be able to withstand daily use and racing abuse. It's not a task taken lightly at this level of power and complexity.

We pulled the engine apart, had the bottom end studded, girdled, cleaned, fire ringed, new rings, bearings, seals, gaskets, an all new valve train, etc.

All the parts have been painstakingly cleaned and painted and assembled.

If all goes well I'll have the engine back in tonight or monday...

I have a phone that rings off the hook in the evening. I'll be welding the new crossmember flages on this evening.

The crossmember is being flanged to allow access to the bearings in chassis.

The next task is the mounting of 3 turbos, 3 inter/aftercoolers, and 2 radiators(and new fans of course) . A major challenge there is holding the boost hoses on at 120-160psi.

Hopefully you can understand why I don't just rush through. It's a bit of new ground.

... ...

Correct me here, but, wasn't this the truck that Piers just did all the trick motor work on recently and had the good Mitchell chargers along with the ladder bars from Kondolay's shop????.

The crossbar is being flanged to allow access to the bearings in chassis.

Don't we mean notched???. With the excessive weight of the front end already and it needing all the strength and support it can get why weaken the cross-member when you don't have to??. The only reason racers do it is for crank access and extra oil pan capacity and since they do no street driving daily abuse is not in question, this is a bad move I'd say.

One thing with this project that stand out in my mind is cylinder pressures. For some unknown reason Mark,it is my opinion that you have way over estimated what the capabilities of this motor. NO2,Meth injection and trips with 175lbs of boost spell a big disaster to me. One has to wonder how much compression ratio you will need to remove to make it live or even think about becoming a daily driver. All I can say is this,I hope no one is near the dyno when it runs and you may want to put some safety tethers or blankets on engine pieces to keep them under the hood.

So tell us all here,Is this truck going to be ready and worth the trip down to Texas to see it dyno at the upcoming event. It could be a HUGE turnout, some of us Northerners and some of the Left Coasters, think of it. Somehow I doubt it... ... ..... Andy

After leaving Piers... It blew the head gasket the first couple of times it hit 80# of boost.

Yes they did put a cam in it and fly cut the pistons. We did a bit more;)

The twins won't hold a candle to whats going to be on it.

The flanging of the crossmember is at the customer's request.

How hard he drives it is his business. I'll adjust the wastegates to a manageable level of boost. I trust the customer to understand his and the truck's limitations.

What level of boost that truck makes when it hits the street will be between the owner and who's asking.

All I'll tell is what the turbo's are capable of.

As of this moment the truck may be done by then but will have to be disassembled to have all the parts coated.

i don't see the fuss about the cross member?. . mark said flanged which to me means a flanged ie removablebolt in cross member i could see the concern fif he was just cutting the middle out and leaving it out with no support there. . etc

Unfortunately this thread does not seem to be going anywhere positive. For example, I was talking with Piers about other things today, and he mentioned this thread to me and that he set up the turbos for 70 psi max. He said that he guaranteed the head gasket to 70 psi but no more, and cautioned the owner not to go over 70 psi.

I was not there when these things happened, but there are usually two sides to any story. So far I think there have been several sides to this story. As has happened in other situations, it seems that contacting the vendor brings about a solution faster and more satisfactorily than airing a problem from one perspective and hashing it out on the forum.

Screw that, just get it together and get it to the dyno day on the 25th!!! :D

hey everyone, the customers wants and desires have nothing to do with this thread. This thread is something to dream about. Mark lets quit dreaming and get to business. The customer should not even be in question here. Customer contracts out to have a job done, thats it. Also blowing a head gasket is not even a problem, I think the customer has been around enough people to lunch them pesky headgaskets.

Mark let this slide get off the net and dont get back on until the truck is done. I garantee this thread would move down the page and await your post to say the truck is done and dialed.

I'm on the net every day and I'll stay that way.

I feel much better now. We all see your priorities now in the case of the "Net V. Truck" Please leave your original post, dont edit it or delete it, I wont bother quoting it either. My job is done here. You will have to come up with some pretty amazing yarns for me to post on this again, as I got work to do. Mark have a good weekend. Please dont take this too personal, you are probably a really great guy to know and to work on trucks

Thought I would post a quick one:

Yeah , the head lifted it was all my fault:D :D

I consider Piers a good friend he has been very helpful when I spoke of my plans for more hp. He stepped up and offered to fix it, but I wanted more power and with more power the fire rings seemed good.

He also recommended the cross member flanges to avoid future costs when we will need to replace the rod bearings.

Spoke to lots of diesel gurus, Mark won the bid. I'm thinking 80# of boost on the street and low drive pressures with some real dense cool air charges.

Marks my friend too. Yes I'm anxious to get my truck back. The sooner the better for me.

Brandon Fenley is probably the guy I talk to the most. He's been instrumental and completely honest on everything we've done on the truck and that means alot to me. He's kind of fun to just hang around with too.

As far as dyno events, we 24V p-pump conversion guys like to lay low. Its like being a half breed in the old west, hated by the White man and the Indian.

I 'm not looking for public displays or people gawking over my truck. scratching it, denting it, or even looking at the system under the hood, no thanks. It mine, its private and if you want to see what one will do buy your own.

Mark does have a full time day job. Part of his job allows him to surf the net and keep things up to date.

Also about this thread moving on down the page. It had moved down the page, and I brought it back to the top. Mark didn't have anything to do with it coming back up. I brought it back up because when this thread started a ton of people enjoyed and appreciated the information they received by reading it. If people have something to ADD to the topic or want to give their support great. If all that you can say is harsh and vindictive then just leave it out. Too many threads end up turning into pi$$ing contests.

Sorry to rant folks, its just something I've seen for a long time.

This post isn't directed at or towards any one person. So don't take it as a flame. Again sorry for bringing this thread back to the top. I thought we were mature enough to have an informative thread.

Later,

Wes
