Stealer said my trackbar is good at 1/4 inch play. They did say the drag link is bad and they ordered one. Anyone else have a draglink go at 30,000 miles

I think you need a service manual. That much end play on the track bar doesn't sound right at all. Without the manual you are at the dealer's mercy.

Well mine's bad now at 53,000,but not to bad,I'm still waitin' to hear back from the parts store. The last I heard from them is that nobody makes them yet,and I don't want another OEM,But may have to settle.

I have had a drag ling among a whole bunch of front end parts bad at 30K miles. The TSB for the trackbar says that . 080" is the MAXIMUM amount of freeplay in the trackbar before it REQUIRES replacement. Look up the TSB and print it out, take it with you and force them to put a new trackbar on for you. They should do their job, but sometimes you need to force the issue. Hope this helps.

Go to NAPA. Since I have one on my truck, NAPA certainly sources an aftermarket trackbar.

I printed out the list of tsbs' from this site and took them with me when I dropped of the truck. They did say . 080 was the max. They also said mine is in spec. It must be just barely. I'll take the new drag link for now, but you can bet that within 5000 miles (when warranty is up) That trackbar will be outta spec;)

E7mack96,

I can see it now. . the front weels of a ram bolted to a post while the driver occillates the streering wheel violently. :D:D:D

They must not have measured the 1/4" 'cuz . 250 > . 080

I would put a dial indicator on that sucker, . 080 is a lot. When mine gets about . 020 in it I can tell the difference after I tighten it.

No trackbar, but I got a new draglink.

One question about the trackbar???

The movement is up and down , not left to right. Dealer swears it is normal to move up and down just a little, but left to right is indicator of it being bad. Could someone clarify the movement that is NOT good and indicates a BAD trackbar.

P. S. They also did a TSB to adjst the steering box for wander.

well then, I cannot see movement left or right, just pops up and down when the wheel is artculated. THought up and down was bad.

What Mallory said is that the play will be up and down. Up and down play IS bad, the TSB has a picture of how to measure the play and it shows the indicator set up to indicate up and down play.

My wife got my truck back with the rebuit NV5600 today from the dealer(these are good folks). When I dropped it off I told them that it was hunting on the hwy and they blew me off a bit. I kept calling about status on the transmission AND TRACKBAR. It turns out the trackbar is on order. We'll drop it off Monday before I head for the plane back here to Kommifornia.

100 miles, not much better

i put 100 miles on 'er today. I think it does handle a little better. On the really rough spots, it still seems to have a wierd shaking to it. it is not as pronounced in the steering wheel though.

Anyone have success with a dealer in the greater cincy area on this???

How do you find these TSB's? Will the dealers even look at this information if you bring it in for them, or is it not even worth bothering with after 3/36 is up?

Thanks

Paul

tsb's here are wrong!

some of the tsb info here is wrong. that is how the dealer messed up my reflash. someone at the tdr made an error.

replaced my drag link at 115k without near that much play. 6 track bars in that time till I put on an adjustable one. Your stealer has been sniffing too much cleaning solvent!!!:--)
