I have had the opposite experience, when following a SRW pickup camper, I notice they are usually all over the road, and apparent wind gusts that move them, I don't seem to be able to feel or notice at all. Maybe my truck has some unsual stability charactistics.

I followed a DRW over 3600 miles loaded with the exact same Lance 1030 camper as I was in June and I knew EXACTLY when I was going to get hit with a crosswind - he moved over MORE than I ever did! My wife kept asking me why he was driving on the shoulder of the road.

Sure, the DRW has 33% more tire patch surface than the SRW, and 2 more tires on the rear. Some other things are equal - pivot point (side to side roll) - COG - overload springs. My anti-sway bars compensate for the tire patch surface - my truck does not sway going down the road in a crosswind no more than the DRW OR an 18 wheeler.

You must be in total denial, because that sounds like wishful thinking!

Thanks - I am now going to schedule an appointment to see my psychiatrist. WTF is wrong with me?

Repeat several times. I must have training wheels on my truck. I must have training wheels on my truck. I must have training wheels on my truck. I must have training wheels on my truck. I must have training wheels on my truck. I must have training wheels on my truck. I must have training wheels on my truck. I must have training wheels on my truck. I must have training wheels on my truck. I must have training wheels on my truck.

I now feel better. But, I still am completely comfortable with my setup.

Aw just admit it, you are among friends, did you not secretly go down the the dealer and price a dually like the "real men" drive? :-laf

That 2WD 3500 DRW you have would get stuck on green grass on a little slope. My best friend owns a 2008 2WD 3500 DRW and has been stuck in his own driveway more than once. Pulled himself out one time with his Dixon ZTR lawnmower.

I'll admit it - I never even considered a DRW after driving my cousin's 2003 3500 DRW w/Lance 1030 camper. The trip was from Houston, TX to Oklahoma City, OK. At the time I had a 2004 2500 and just wasn't enough improvement that I could feel to justify a DRW.

Ignorance is indeed bliss, I did not know that! Only 200,000 miles, never been stuck yet! (Then again maybe your neighbor either needs a load of gravel on his driveway or needs to turn his sprinklers off)

I've got a srw w/popup which I consider the max for safety. Comparing a DRW to SRW with slide in hardsided camper is like comparing the Rock of Gibralter to a haystack. :-laf It's just the law of physics as stated before. Think emergency avoidance manuevers. The dually's gonna slide out of the situation. The srw's going to roll. We're talking a death situation with somebody coming head on,not going around a corner at a higher than safe speed. Dually's and hard sided slide in's rock.

Don/TX, maybe we ought to back off Mr. Jet. Obviously the man's just a bull headed old fool that would never change his mind even if he knows his wrong.

Actually, we live in the hills where we get more rain in a week than Albuq, NM or Rio Grande, TX gets in a year. And some people get their trucks off the graveled and paved roads!

Physics can be applied here too: 5000 lb. front axle being pushed up-hill on a wet surface by a 2500 lb. axle with the weight spread over 4 DRW tires!!!!:D

And yes, I am an old bull headed fool that has 47 years experience driving overloaded high COG trucks. I started at 13 years old driving a D100 LWB Slant 6 carrying 3000 lbs. of peaches to the market 50 miles away every day during the summer. In 6 years, I had two blowouts on the D100 and one on my Uncle's 3/4 Ton Ford.

Here is a picture that shows you just how bull headed I am. Picture was taken on I-40, January 2007 between Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Oklahoma City, OK. I was driving my then Dodge 2500 4x4 with the Lance 1030 on it. Only reason I was going I-40 is because I-44 between Tulsa and OKC was shut down due to ICE! And, we finally cleared the ice somewhere in New Mexico.
