Well here I go again! And again I need some more info.
After a long, cold, snowy Winter, here in N. WI and not firing my truck for two months, I took it for a drive last week and the only gears it has is 2nd, third and rev. No low, O.D. or lock-up.
After sitting outside all Winter in -30 degree weather I thought it would clear up and start shifting properly after a few heat cycles. Three 25 mi. trips. This didn't happen.
My symptoms now are; When I'm stopped and shift from neutral to drive it feels and sounds like it goes into low for about a 1/2 second, then w/out moving it goes into 2nd and that is what it starts moving in, 2nd. While driving at about 25 mph I can pull the shift lever down to 2nd and it picks up 2nd, pull it on down to low, and it stays in 2nd. This is one problem.
My 2nd problem; Not shifting to O.D. and lock-up. Again I thought it might be my TPS. Again I got out my digital volt-meter and it shows at idle 1.67 volts and at WOT 3.88 volts, which is where it was at when I installed this new TPS about a year ago and everything worked great.
Also I know on very cold mornings here in N WI, it would not go into O.D./lock-up for about 5 to 6 miles and I think that is normal? Could whatever that is that controls that (Trans. oil thermostat?) be stuck or defective?
I had this trans./torq. conv. rebuilt/new about 18 months ago but that shop is in CA and I don't live there any longer. It'll be getting warm enough here for me to start working outside in the next few weeks and I would really appreciate any info. pertaining to these problems. I don't know of any good mechanics or trans. shops in WI, but I can still turn a wrench as long as it's not R&R the trans. If it comes down to that, I'll be asking you guys about good mechanics in N. WI.
TIA for any help on this,
Ray
