Do you need a puller to get it off? Does the damper push on, or does it require the bolts to pull it down on the crank? I am waiting to see what all needs to be removed for access and replacement before I make my purchase. :-laf

The fan shroud stuff is built a bit different on your 06 so I'm not sure about that part but the HB itself is just bolted on, not pressed, and slips off and out the bottom of the truck after you remove its 4 bolts. It's really pretty simple.
Oh and you need to remove your steering brace to get clearance.

The balancer is held on a short shoulder with 4 bolts. Once the bolts are out you can wiggle it off by hand, unless you live in salt country then you may have to tap it.

To replace the fan pulley you will need to remove the shroud and fan.

Do I really need to purchase the barring plate on the front? I am thinking just doing the the balancer and pulley.

Is the tone ring attached to it? If not then I wonder if you use it or the old one. Same?
Probably wont work - you should sell it. Cheap.

Trent,

Does the dowel pin in the crankshaft nose clock the 6. 7 damper into the correct orientation so that the TDC mark and tone ring notch are in the right positions with respect to cylinder 1 TDC? Without the pin it appears you could put the damper on in 3 incorrect orientations.

Also, it appears that the 6. 7 damper has a larger belt pulley diameter than the 5. 9. This is compensated for by a smaller fan pulley. How much fan overdrive is produced by this change?

For what it's worth, the Dodge part number for the damper is 68005166AA and that number is used on the '07 to '11 code ETJ 6. 7 L Cummins engines. The 6. 7 fan pulley is 68002978AA. These are considerably more expensive than the Cummins part numbers - $300+ for the damper, around $100 for the pulley at some of the online discounters. OUCH!

The parts fiche web site doesn't have 2012 information at this time.

There's no difference in the size of the fan pulley. The outer edge is just recessed to slip the belt by and provide clearance for the larger HB.
Old on the left, new on the right:

I looked at a friends 2012 damper yesterday, and it does appear that all 11. 5+ trucks get the HO damper, even if they are the manual version.

I really want to get mine on, just need to find the time.

Does my 06, basically stock 5. 9 warrant the '12 HO damper at 2X the price of the 07-11 unit? I can't figure out how it could be worth it, especially with a 48RE on the back end.

I think the only advantage you would get is to get rid of the drone but I don't know if the '12 would be any different in that regard. Otherwise, I think it really takes a manual transmission to really enjoy the difference.

Yes, I believe the dowel pin does orient the damper to #1 TDC.

The pulley portions of the damper and the fan pulley are the same size on the 6. 7 and the 5. 9.

It is hard to imagine how the HO version of the damper could be worth the extra dollars.

Godspeed,
Trent

So I am a little confused here...
Is the viscous damper for a 6. 7 CTD actually different then the viscous damper for a 6. 7 CTD HO (post 2011 production date)??
