Collin, the noises went away with the 6. 7 installed but, the 6. 7 HO does not perform nearly as well as the FD did on my truck. The difference is really night and day as far as how quiet it was and how much smoother clutch engagement/launch was. To me it feels like the FD is "tuned" for a wider range.

So whats the difference in the 6. 7 and the HO? Do they look the same? I am assuming you mean the two dampers?

The difference is about $230! But seriously folks...
I don't really know. They both weigh about the same and look to be the same diameter from what others have posted. I suspect there's some sort of tuning to it.

I could post some measurements if someone want's to posts the same for a standard 6. 7.

Hope this helps!:)

I am going to attach some photos of my install as this may help some identify the job details. One of the photos I am showing how flexible the fan shroud is and why it comes off as an assembly with the fan blade and clutch. The green belt is the Gates HD from Geno's as they just had a sale on them. I have not drove the truck; however, I am wanting to hook up to the 5ver and see if there is any difference. One photo shows why the fan pulley is different as it comes close to the Balancer. This may take 2-3 uploads for the pics.

Here is some more pics. I have an automatic so one of the pics is using the barring tool to help while I torque the Harmonic Balancer bolts.

Parts Shortage

Well with all the conversions going on I tried to buy the parts today and found out they wont be available until mid June. So guess everyone has depleated the stock of 6. 7 HB and the 6. 7 fan pulley. So if you want these parts may as well put them on order and wait. As info. .

Prairie Dog, I have a friend that is wanting to update his 2004. 5 and his is a 6 speed also. Sounds like he may want to choose the FD that way it is a simple bolt on and he does not have to change out the fan pulley correct?

Correct but as you may have read, FD has had some issues with a noise that nobody seem to know where it's coming from. The noise doesn't seem to hurt anything though. You can't here this noise when driving though and the FD kills any drone you have.
The only advantage to having the newer pulley with the FD is that you would only have to slide the balancer forward slightly to get the belt on and off (as pointed out to me by Cerberusiam).

Correct, but you have to pull the FD to change the belt.

Unless he turns more than 3K rpms the 6. 7 damper seems to be the best for the buck.

Has anyone figured out the difference in the 6. 7 HO part other than price? I remember some one saying it was over $400 from Cummins.

I've got the HO and have exact measurements if anybody wan'ts to compare.
Ron, yes, it's almost exactly twice the price and I now wish I had just got the standard 6. 7 part. Who knows, maybe it works better.

Well I ordered the crank damper, pin and fan pulley to try on my '98. 5. Unfortunately they are backordered for about a month. Also the price has gone up $11 since I checked last, to $233. Oh well. I might be one of the first to put one on a 2nd Gen 24V.

The discussion about putting a Cummins 6. 7 fluid damper on a 24 valve has been that there is no "notch" in the damper for the crank sensor. Do you have an idea of how you will get around that?

Godspeed,
Trent
