I'm getting my VP44 replaced under warranty but unlike others, mine just functioned fine, then would act up, then would be fine. I'm putting up a post to see how everyone else's died...

Thanks AZ!

Hopefully, we'll get LOTS of 24v guys to respond to this poll.

I'm knocking on some serious hard wood with my VP44. My '99 has a 11/98 build date.....

My Comp box isn't helping matters either!:D :D

I have 150,000 miles on the truck, I get shudders and stumbles every once in a while... . been running bombed since 60,000 miles and have had a mallory back at the fuel tank since then as well.

Well, I'll post my experiences, but I didn't vote, because I am honestly not sure about my VP44... .

Never had a fuel pressure gauge until a week ago - 45K miles. Still on original lift pump at that point. Had fuel pressure gauge installed a week ago, found my lift pump was dead th that time. Installed new OEM lift pump I got from Cummins. Now have 15+ PSI fuel pressure. Truck had never shown the slightest sign of fuel system problems.

After installing new lift pump, went for freeway run to see what fuel pressures were at cruise and WOT. Well, at about 2600 RPM, suddenly all fueling just cuts out. Comp box was at 2x3. Changed Comp to 5x5, tried WOT again. Now fueling cuts out at 2700 RPM, but still cuts out. The moment I lift my foot off the pedal, strong fueling resumes instantly. Tried several Comp menu/sub menu settings, all do this.

Called Edge yesterday, talked to Aaron. He suggested I check the pump wire. Went home last night, unhooked pump wire, it's connector is solid, reconnected wire, went for another freeway run. Fueling still cutting out. Aaron said small chance my VP44 could be dying, but he will send me a new Comp to try.

Naturally, that scared the jeebies out of me, as I know the VP44 is mondo $$ :{

So... . until I get the new COmp box, I won't know for sure what's going on. I can't really accdept the VP44 could be having a problem and acting the way my truck is currently acting though. I would expect that if the VP44 was dying, it wouldn't be so inconsistent in when it cuts off fueling, and how quickly it resumes fueling when I lift foot off pedal.

SO I don't know the health of my VP44 to be honest... ...

I have no idea when the build date was, I bought the truck in dec of 98... . it had been on a lot out in the panhandle of Ok for a while, not sure how long though.....

Mine was manufactured 5/98, 76 000 as of now, Comp on it since 55 000. Works fine no stumble or nothin'. Wish I could say the same about my transmission! You guys got me sweatin' now... ... ... ... . I am my own warranty station:( :{ :D

Mine is still fine @60,000 miles, however a freinds '98. 5 24-v has eatin' 2 of them @50,000 miles, the 1st at 19,000. They just up and puked, no warning, just died. So I voted for him, he just got the truck back from the dealer on Tuesday from the 2nd one. Now he took it back to the dealer for a fried turbo, his luck hasn't been very good lately. :(

So far both of the VP's in my truck are ok... though this whole scenario is really making me rethink the pusher pump idea. I'm not sure if I really want to put them on my trucks or not. .

I think I'd rather find a strong lift pump and just move it back my the fuel tank.

Mine started leaking out of the cover on top of the pump, I tightened the screws and it would run ok for a day or so then go to leaking again, and would loose its prime, so DC replaced it under warrenty with out question. Lucky me.

When mine died it still ran just with a very very rough idle. I did have a restriction in my filter though. I replaced the filter just before all hell broke loose because of a stumble. DC gave me a new one no prob and charged me $90 to tell me that my fuel filter was defective.

Had my lift pump replaced at around 40K, now have 50K on truck. My lift pump was dead when it was replaced, truck ran great with dead lift pump. I have no idea how long it was dead. I will be intersted to see if my VP44 dies at the 60= mile mark?

Mine went into a hard start mode three times, then would only start if towed, finally wouldn't even go that way. Build date 2/00. 71,900 miles. LIft pump replaced at 68k, but may have been bad for a while since I didn't put fuel pressure gauge in until then.

When I lost my Vp44 I had no warning. The truck was running fine(pressures were good) one minute, then it missed once real hard and died. I never got it to restart again. Mine is a '99(build date 05/99) and had 47K miles on it when the pump died.

Mine is ok, as far as I know. I put gauges on about a month ago, three weeks later lift pump went belly up. Its at the dealer right now getting a new lift pump. Glad I got a FP gauge!:D

Come on guys, I know there are more than 74 of you 24vers on the TDR... . :( Why aren't you voting?

Looks like we have a 20% VP44 failure rate according to this poll so far. That's pretty pathetic if you ask me! :{
