RIGZONE - Drilling Ban Is Off, But Work Is Stalled

Please note the first paragraph in particular.

What a great article, every day Washington puts another obstacle in the way of us ever becoming energy independent. Every dollar that Exxon, Mobile etc have to spend waiting for Obama to quit playing god cost you and me in the price at the pump.

It is getting so damm old, just filled my truck up, never let it go below half... . Still over $50. 00 to fill it. I bought the truck when diesel was cheaper than Gas. Then big, wise, government changed things; like Hbarlow states not for them just us. Teach me to think that I have the right to drive what I want, where do I think I am anyway? the USA?

You are correct... ... .

I dont expect to see any change in the next two years (Off Shore Drilling). This will wind up stopping any economic growth that may have been underway.

Watch for future threads that will be blaming everyone but the people it should be directed at. For those members living outside of California?, their the lucky ones. Our new Governor Jerry Brown's budget proposal calls for a 10cent a gallon gas tax increase, oh another hike on our registration fees as well.

I think I read that after our petty dictator's order prohibiting drilling in the Gulf of Mexico the big oil companies said, "okay, no problem, and moved their drilling rigs somewhere where free or somewhat free enterprise was still permitted. "

A fundamental factor that the communists cannot understand is that free enterprise will continue regardless of their decrees. Smart people have money, assets, and know how to get things done regardless of petty dictators standing in their way.

There's goes his campaign pledge of "No new taxes unless the people want them" No worries though. Moonbeam and Obama have big plans to fuel our rigs with unicorn tears.

Probably for the same reason that you own a large and heavy Cummins powered Dodge Ram.

Americans are a mobile society. We often move long distances to expand our education or skills, or to find employment. We change jobs and careers, often involving cross country travel. We Americans enjoy travel and much of it is by automobile or light truck with RVs. We travel long distances even to commute daily to work in large cities. Our nation covers a very large geographic area and we are often widely separated from our families and friends.

I frequently pull a heavy fifth wheel travel trailer weighing 14k lbs. , a flatbed utility trailer weighing 7k, and a tandem axle hydraulic dump trailer weighing 14+k loaded with garden fertilizer, dirt, gravel, etc. I live in a farmhouse 10 miles from the nearest town and when I travel I travel across the state of Texas which is approximately 750 miles from east to west or south to north. A crappy little European fuel sipper would not meet my transportation or comfort needs. A BMW or Mercedes Benz would certainly provide comfortable transportation but would not support my lifestyle or interests.

I am an American. I was a free American until two years ago when a petty socialist dictator was elected. I wish to continue to be free to do as I damned well please. I served my country defending the freedom of the rest of you. I planned for my retirement and can afford to do as I please within obvious limits. I earned the right to travel if that is my wish. I don't want some socialist restricting my freedom for his or her misguided anti-American goals.

Is that sufficient reason for you?

It is sure enough for me and I could not agree with you more. However, this started long before the current administration, they however, have taken it to new levels. The next thing they will be after is 401k and other retirement funds... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

How about just using or own oil:eek:

There's plenty of it.

If we relied only on ours, the price would already be well above $5 per gallon. Since China is a major competitor, I think we're all screwed, and oil supply is just the beginning. I think the picture is alot bigger than just oil.

I disagree. We have vast untapped sources of crude oil that is available to supply the needs of our own country and to sell into the world market. I can't predict what the per gallon prices would be but increasing supply always brings the price down. The industrialization of China and India certainly increase demand on world supplies but China is rapidly opening up new sources of crude oil while our government is preventing Americans from producing. I am confident that increasing our own supplies would moderate the price. The rules of supply and demand work every time government gets out of the way.

You might be surprised who's investing in U. S. oil and gas assets!

From THIS ARTICLE on the Eagle Ford shale play in Texas:

In October, China's CNOOC agreed to pay $1. 1 billion for a 33 percent stake in Chesapeake's Eagle Ford acreage, marking its first U. S. onshore asset purchase. That same month, Statoil (Norway) said it was joining forces with Canada's Talisman and would pay Enduring Resources $1. 3 billion to develop Eagle Ford acreage.

In June, India's Reliance shelled out $1. 3 billion to buy acreage and form a joint venture with Pioneer Natural Resources Co. And earlier in the year, BP and Shell bought into the play. Exxon Mobil Corp. , the world's largest public oil company, also has a position in the Eagle Ford.

“We have high hopes for that area,” Statoil CEO Helge Lund told the Chronicle in a recent interview in Houston.

the reason we dont rush to use up our Countrys oil is so we are the last guy standing in the end.

I wonder why we want to give up our nuclear weapons and downsize and weaken our military forces if we wan to be "the last guy standing ... ..... ?"

So very true. This last guy standing stuff is really stupid!. We are selling our soles for oil right now. Obama is making one of the biggest sales of weapons ever made to Saudi Arabia right now. So they will be our friends and give us oil. Let me see, do I remember correctly or wasn't Iran buying weapons from us in the 60s'and 70s'. When their oil runs out what do you think they will use those weapons for? We need to use our own oil and get to it now... ... ... Our Government needs to get out of the way or we need to make them get out.

While there is no hard data just yet, every report I've seen says that there are between 2. 5 and 5 TRILLION barrels of oil in our oil shale located in Utah/Wyoming/Colorado and surrounding areas.

By comparison, the Saudis have around 250 BILLION barrels.

If we are not careful we will run out of - FREEDOM - long before we could ever run out of oil resources..... "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder"

This is another reason why I am a member, informed and knowledgeable people that are passionate about topics that share an interest in.

I live in South Dakota where for 4 years Hyperion Resources has been making preparations to begin building a new oil refinery. My question to the membership is this, what are the opinions of the TDR membership regarding the probability of this project moving forward? They plan to pipeline in tar sands from Alberta... .

Many informed members here, would sincerely appreciate any thoughts/feedback. Thanks!!

For four years they have been faced with as much red tape as our Government can throw at them. Is there a group or petition or anything like that happening to move it forward. Is your congressman behind it? I would sign a petition, write a congressman or do what ever else I could to see a new refinery come on line.

It is sad, I am sure most people that are members of the TDR would feel the same way but our representatives do not.

They really do not know what the word "representative" means anymore.

JP Nelson,

As of today with a new congress your SD refinery has a slightly better chance of getting through the hurdles placed before the company seeking to build it but, in truth, I would say the chances of it actually being built are not good until the current anti-American, anti-free market administration is gone.
