Dieselminded - You are right I don't know the whole story. I just know it's rare that I see people getting banned or muted, and if they are, they typically are causing some kind of stink. You may have been fully justified in it. . didn't mean to insult you, I only saw the one thread you listed above. Nasty PM's and scheming behind the scenes is certainly not a good thing. That said, I still love DTR, it's a great informational resource, like TDR.



Yes I'm Lightman on most other forums including DTR. Surprisingly, there is a guy here on TDR that has the Lightman screen name. A few weeks ago he posted in a thread that I had posted in, which even confused me reading it. At first I was like, wait, I didn't write that! In any case, I am flattered at the term guru, although I would never describe myself that way. . I have done a lot of research though regarding fuel and lube technology.

Personally, I don't see any more problem discussing good/bad points about boards, any more than the same discussion as it relates to Ford/Dodge, or a person relating - in a calm and measured manner - poor treatment by a dealership.



IF all we feel comfortable with here is warm and fuzzy feeling discussions of a strictly complimentary and groveling attitude - well, that simply is NOT a true to life reality!



Relating our personal feelings as related to experiences on this or other boards CAN be of benefit to other users, as well as to those running THIS board, as their sensitivity to issues and perceptions of members is revealed. NO, the inmates won't be allowed to run the show - but what harm if their opinions are displayed in a calm and reasonable fashion?



As a member in this group, and one actively involved in RV travel, *I* value info of a positive OR negative nature that might steer me to, or away from a specific dealership - and censorship of info like that potentially does ME far more harm than good! The same goes for competing Internet boards. After all, if you are treated poorly on another board and banned - where CAN you go to relate your experience to others with similar interests?



As long as name-calling or personal insult is avoided - and all pertinent facts fairly presented, what harm is created? As was pointed out above, establishment and operation of a board like this can provide a valued resource - but HARDLY grants the one establishing or operating the board Sainthood! The folks running this board and others, are only human too - and when they make an error in judgement or treat users with impunity and disdain, they should be prepared to hear about it - and hopefully correct any revealed lapses in integrity and judgement that exposure displays.



I, for one, totally REJECT the notion that simply because a person or group comes up with the $$$ to create and operate a board like this or the DTR - DISCUSSION groups - that they be allowed to freely or irrationally abuse their users - or ban them in a careless or capricious manner - board operation to me implies a degree of personal standards, integrity and fairness considerably ABOVE that of most users.



It may well be that board "owners" are free to operate purely on a "play the game MY way or get booted" basis - but I certainly hope and expect MOST operating boards have far more sensitivity and integrity than that!



It's what they expect and demand from their users - are they REALLY expected to be allowed to function outside their OWN clearly posted guidelines without criticism from their "subjects"?

Lightman Im really glad to see your expitize on this site you was one of the resources I thought I lost threw the injustice @ DTR relly glad to have you @ my disposal :-laf for any demusifiers or what not ..... I think thats the word you always use.



Whats hard is for some people to understand That I really never did nothing wrong its easier just to say I got out of line and banned but really thats not the case I was 8 balled for real . 480 post down the drain and I lost contact with alot of good people and friends . nice to see some of them here. and I know for a fact more and more DTR members will be on the way if the site keeps the same direction. SO HOPEFULLY THEY DONT CHANGE A THING.

Fair treatment.

I realize that might mean different things to different people.

I don't consider myself to be a mindless zombie yes-man, Far from it.

I like the direction that DTR is going. That's why I chose to become part of it.

That's also why I spend much of my free time helping (I Hope) to better the site for all members.

And as a Forum Moderator, I try my level best, when problems arise, to treat all members fairly.

Sure we'll ruffle some feathers once in awhile.

There are site rules that all potential members agree to abide by when they click on the button at the bottom of that page.

I know that not everyone can/will/wants to agree with the way someone else might do things. That's part of life.

Sometimes it may be best just to avoid the ulcers and just "move on".

Life is too short and too precious to have to be angry or disappointed when there's no need.

I think the mods do great on DTR and They have helped me alot



There are many DTR members right now that feel the same as I do but most are not willing to accept the concinques from steping up . they see injustice and just sigh and move on call it matuity call it what you will ... ... ..... BUT after so much it gets sickning. and one cant help but speak the truth.

I got banned from there, long time ago. . I dont miss it. it is run by a bunch of liberal yo-yo's, and all they are about is money, and on that site, money can talk, and we just get to walk. I am very grateful for this site, as I have learned mass amounts of knowledge, whereas over there, I would post something, and being that I am very outspoken (As some of y'all who have met me know), and apparently it was too much for them, and resulted in them getting their panties in a ruffle. I think the last thing that did it was posting a link to OILBURNERS. . No big thing, there are some very knowledgable (Sp?) folks on there just like as on here.



My advice, is to just take it in stride, as you dont need to associate with those people on DTR anyway, ya know? Glad I am not the only one!

KDP = Killer Dowel Pin. Found on the earlier engines, but phased out by late '98 or '99. It served no real function, or than to line the timing up, but can fall out and create a real mess of things.

CHarlan, as a moderator since 2001 for the DTR, I have never considered myself as a "Liberal Yo-Yo" nor has anyone else that I am associated with that I am aware of. Just because you have a beef with a couple of admins or moderators of the DTR does not mean that you can call all of them what you feel.

I never though my voicing my opinion about something and keeping it clean with no names involved would have sparked such a frenzy, then again im not surprised when pple are snooping through PM's and such just to see if there being talked about, now thats childish...

Monty- You may not be a liberal yo-yo; I never had beef with any of the mods, but I was told that there were children and families on the DTR. Come on dude, I know a few women, a select handfull who are into diesels. As far as kids, I seriously doubt that a bunch of kids are going to be looking up stuff like which Delivery Valves will make their wagon go faster, or what turbo is the best for his/her bicycle. . For real, some of the moderators on there are very irrational, and for doing what they do, there is a whole group who will stand behind me in my beliefs. I was not trying to get anyone all stirred up, however I am very outspoken, and exercise my choice to voice my opinion clearly, in moderation of course. Sorry if you took it the wrong way; maybe you are the only level headed mod on the DTR. For that, I give you props. You sound pretty cool, and keep it that way!
