I picked up a can of glass cleaner called "Invisible Glass" at Autozone and was mightily impressed with how clean it gets the windows compared to my old technique of Windex, cussin', and learning to defocus my eyes on the highway to avoid streak-induced hallucinations.

They recommend using newspaper with the cleaner, by the way.

I used to wash windows for a living and all we ever used was ammonia and water. Try a cup of ammonia to a half gallon of water and a sponge. Follow up with a chamois or suitable drying cloth.

FWIW: The new dealer installed interior protectorants (Perma-Plate to name one) are almost impossible to get off glass. The jewelers rouge would probably work since it's a super fine abrasive. I have an area on my car's windshield where they accidentally sprayed the glass while doing the upholstery and I haven't found anything yet that will make a dent in it.

Inside windows smear

Discovered years ago , , nothin removes the cloud as well as a chamois. Once the Yuk is removed with windex , , get a chamois and finish it. The world looks good from there on:D

On the inside

I don't smoke in my truck but always end up with a film on the inside window. What causes this film and can any thing be done about it?

The plastic trim in your truck puts out a vapor when it gets hot, that is what you are seeing on the inside of the windows. It is worse in the summer versus the winter. Any of the silicon based treatments will help keep this problem to a minimum.

A good point! I forgot some states allow tinting the driver/passenger side windows. Out here in Kalifornia it's not allowed and the police do pull people over and issue fix-it tickets.

What ever happen to Glass Wax ? it left a white film you could not miss. When the white stuf was gone the windows were clean:confused:  :confused:It worked

When the heater core starts to leak ,it also puts a film on the windshield. Ive seen this happen quite a bit,the leak wont be bad enough to actually leak out the heater box,or the evap drain, but it will elak enough to evaporate and cloud over your windshield.
