No matter what I'm towing, I don't think I would get a 4.10 with an Aisin. A 4:10 only makes sense with a 68RFE or G56.

If going Aisin 3.73 is an excellent combo.

I test drove a 4:10 g56. But bought the 3.42 g56 without even test driving or blinking

Why do you think the 3.73 is an excellent combo with the Aisin, when myself with 3.42's and Cummins12V98 with 4.10's see no reason for the 3.73 with the HO/Aisin combo? I do not believe you and/or Nisaacs have any actual experience in the arena????

In my mind there is no reason for a compromise ratio(3.73) with the DEF HO/Aisin engine tune. Towing really heavy, get the 4.10's. Towing not that heavy get the 3.42's, and enjoy a second OD for freeway cruising at lower RPM's and increased MPG.

You have a SRW. I'm talking DRW. I haven't owned a DRW. But I don't know of anyone on here who has experience with 3.42, 3.73, & 4.10 in both Dec and predef trucks.

A truck designated for hot shorting would not be SRW

I'm reasonably sure if he had owned/towed with 3.73's, they would also be the best gear ratio ever (besides the others) .

Have you every had a beer with him, or worked on trucks together? I didn't think so!!!!

Have you every owned a RAM with a Aisin transmission?

BTW, he let me drive his 2015 on our way two towns over for Pizza one night few years ago when the truck was fairly new!

Ok, I'll weigh out of the discussion. But you should also explain why you dismiss GS Brockmans 3.73 /Aisin combo.

No one said 3.73 do not work, it is just that some feel it is a un-needed offering. There is enough overlap between 3.42 and 4.10 to make 3.73 unnecessary.

4.10 in 6th is a sweet spot of towing while the 3.42 have the same sweet spot in 5th.

Sounds like the majority of you guys already have this axle ratio thing figured out.
I guess I can add my lackluster 3.73’s to the list of other things most worry about....capless fill, DEF (whether box or bulk), water pumps, and partial fluid changes. I feel it is indeed truly a miracle my truck has made it to 338K.....especially with these LT235/80R17 Bridgestone RD 500 HD tires that have miraculously made it 130K miles.

I’ll let the experts sort out the picture below and allow them to determine trailer weight and GCW.

For someone who does not have what we have/had sure likes to argue about it.

Yes, kind of like you with 3.73's.....I know trucks, been driving them for 50 years, I am a mechanic, dang good one, I have built a few, I am a fabricator/welder, I know what works and what breaks and why.

I don't argue, I debate/discuss......to argue is to get pissy......I try not to do that.

Okay, I will bite.....Truck is 9k, bottom trailer is 8k, middle trailer is 7k and top one is 5k for a total of 29k....OMG! you need 3.42's:D

A stack of new trailers makes an attractive load, truck is level, trailer is level, nice!

Having towed some steep inclines (13+% grades) on back roads in the Appalachians. I could see going to 3.73 or 4.10 with a g56.

A few times backing up hill and needing to go slow, I wished I did have lower gearing.

The duallies have mostly 16 inch rims which is a whole lot different than the 18 inch ones I'm running now. That was why I did have an opinion (not experience) that 3.73:1 would be sufficient. (With Aisin)

You never cease to amaze me :-laf

I bet Nick is pretty close on the load but it is hard to tell from those pics exactly what ya got. That little guy on top would sure be a nice upgrade for my old rag tag tilt. If that is a 25 ft/20k gvw she weighs 6k empty, yes I'm still looking :D

You can't compare a 6 spd auto with the 6spd G-56. The auto has 2 overdrives, the G-56 has one, the manual has a clutch the auto a torque converter. The G-56 is not offered in a pickup with a 4.10, it is too slow. It is offered with a cab/chassis.

I think the little guy on top is tandem SRW, so probably 14k, or if they add pin weight, some builders do, it might be 16k gvw.

Gatormade makes a 20k gvw with 8k axles and 17.5" wheels. I can't tell from the pic if they are 16" wheels or 17.5's, if they are 16" wheels then your probably right. 7k axles /16k gvw. Either way it's a nice rig.

Opps, my bad, I didn't even consider that. However, the wheels appear to be mod style, the 17.5's are usually solid, like these.

Here's a shot of the 17.5"s Gatormade uses, they look a touch different from your dump.

That being said I'm on my phone this morning so can't get a good close up of Greg's picture. So you could very well be right... again :)
