With TH on it should not shift into 6th until 65+ MPH.

There are too many variables to determine when a trans should and would shift up. Speed is only one of them.*

*with the caveat...I do not own an Aisin, so assuming they work like pretty much any other trans I've ever used, load, throttle pressure, speed etc are all factors used by the trans to determine when to shift....not just mph.

In TH with 3.42 gear and Aisin and it will not shift to 6th unit 65 MPH. 4th to 5th shift is at 55 MPH BTW. It has it's own computer that is not tightly coupled to the PCM ECM. The Aisin is NOT a learning transmission BTW.

Sounds like the majority of you guys already have this axle ratio thing figured out.
I guess I can add my lackluster 3.73’s to the list of other things most worry about....capless fill, DEF (whether box or bulk), water pumps, and partial fluid changes. I feel it is indeed truly a miracle my truck has made it to 338K.....especially with these LT235/80R17 Bridgestone RD 500 HD tires that have miraculously made it 130K miles.

I’ll let the experts sort out the picture below and allow them to determine trailer weight and GCW.

LOL. good one

Are you saying it shifts to 6th at 65 mph, each time, every time, regardless of those factors I listed?

Downhill, very light throttle, 62 mph in 5th....it won't go into 6th?

According to OBD data I'm turning about 1550 RPM at 70 MPH in 6th gear. 1610 RPM at 60 MPH in 5th. 2080 RPM at 60 in 4th. 2016 RAM 6.7 Cummins Aisin 3.42 gears, SRW 20" wheels. In 5th most of the time towing, try to keep 65mph or a slight bit under until we get better RV tires.

I will check. Will post info Friday most likely. I do not believe so. I think if you let up, it goes on to the EB and starts slowing the truck. I will try TH with and without the EB.

Bottom trailer is a 35+5, middle one is a 25+5, and the top trailer is a 20+5. I also had 13 tire/wheel assemblies as well as several boxes of winch heads and 4 inch straps.

Trailers weighed in at 24,700 lbs per the MSOs excluding the tire/wheel assemblies.

Total GCW was around 34,060 lbs.

NOT 3.42 ratio territory.

Sno is correct.....when in TH, the aisin will not shift to 6th until 65mph or so. Rain, shine, day, night, loaded or not.....

I had the bottom trailer guestimated at 35' so was probably light on it's weight.

Top I was pretty certain was 25', I have looked at that one with 8k axles a few times due to recurving my 7k axles on more than one occasion. I keep fixing up my POS but those days are numbered. So I keep telling myself!

Shirley you're mistaken? :p

If everyone told you that up was really up, you would argue that it was really down.
If everyone told you that right was really right, you would argue that it was really left.

Case closed! You just like to be different and disagree with people.

Incorrect. [emoji16]

I suggest you run real numbers before you get taken advantage of by one of the RV hauler brokers. ........ You see where we just went below what a underpaid school teacher earns and you are working your butt off?.... You might ask about Hook and Tow where you load a trailer on a flatbed truck and tow another one behind you delivering 2 trailers at once.

JD has some real good info.

In the early '90's I hauled 6 single axle, two horse trailers for a local dealer, they were special order for roping prizes, extra tall and extra wide units. With my deck on the gooseneck I could haul 3 and I towed one. Then I hauled my '91 Dodge to the pickup point (Madill, Ok.) She towed two, bumper to bumper (not legal in AZ) They paid $200 each, 900 miles one way...so yeah don't tow or haul horse trailers, they are too bulky to haul enough of 'em to pay. That is why a lot of trailer dealers won't sell horse trailers. When I balked at the price, the local dealer said that he could find any number of guys that would go get them just as a vacation, to take it or leave it, like a dumb bell I took it:)
