These threads are fine, so everybody can boast and brag... ... ... ... .....

But where's the conclusion... ... ... ... ..... maybe at a site like Bob, The oil guy?????

I'm just a newbie owner with a used 305 H. O. wanting the best bang for the buck product that I can change regularly... .....

Here to learn... ... ... ... .

I also have the 305 HO and have always (since first oil change) run Mobil 1 5-40 synthetic (CI-4) with no oil usage between changes. Now have 58k miles and am have stockpiled more CI-4 spec oil, both Mobil 1 syn and Valvoline 5-40 extreme. Truck runs great, no problems at all which could be traced to oil choice. Do run amsoil gear and trans fluids though.

just wanted to see what everyone is using... I was usinf amsoil, then switched to Rotella after poor oil analysis. it seems to test better on the rottela. so what are you running???

I run Rotella, change it at ~15,000 miles and have gotten good samples all the way to 480,000 miles.

I use the cheapest 15w-40 I can get my hands on. With Mobil Delvacs rebate I stocked up last Spring and Summer. I paid about $5 per gallon after rebate.

I've got 27 gallons in the garage. I run a 7500 mile OCI. I'm good for almost 70,000 more miles before I need to buy more oil.

We'll see whats cheapest then.

Shell RotellaT in my last 3 cummins trucks. Tried Rot. T synth. in last truck and it started using oil. Changed back to dino Rot T and usage stopped.

Change oil/filter at approx. 7k miles. Use Fleetgard filters only. Test oil every 3rd change at Blackstone.

Rot. T is easy to buy usually at Wally's. Sams Club carries it also.

I used Shell Rotella until 25000 miles. Changed it every 5000 miles. I then switched to Amsoil. I ran the Amsoil for 15000 miles and changed the filter every 5000 miles. I didn't feel that there was any benefit to Amsoil in the engine. I guess I'm still old school, I could not run the truck more than 5000 miles without wanting to change the oil. Just changed to Valvoline Blue because it had a big Cummins C on the jug. My choice of oil was based more on the fact Cummins endorsed the oil than any scientific research. You will be fine with any oil that is designed for diesel use.

I do run Amsoil in the rest of the lubricated parts of the truck.

Heart broken when Rotella 5W-40 went to CJ, Now its out of there. The Rotella 5W-40 Synth shows only half the TBN properties the Royal Purple CI-4+ 15W-40 has.

So Royal Purple from now on or until they go CJ.

Mac:cool:

Amsoil Type?

OK, I am thinking about swtiching every thing to Amsoil, but a little at a time. I see there are different types that I could use. This is a repley from an Amsoil rep-

(The '04 Dodge will use the EaO80 Oil Filter and HDD (5W-30), AME (15-40 CI+), or DME (15-40 CJ4 rated) diesel oils. All of these are 25,000 mile or once a year oil.

Dana,

Yes the Eao filters provide better filtration than any other filter. 98. 7 % filtration at 15 micron. I have attached the information from AMSOIL about them and the different oils. I run the 5W-30 HDD in my Duramax pulling my trailers and all of my equipment)

I realize this is some what personal opinon, If I do this I will take samples and send them in.

Any thoughts or suggestions?? I do like the slightly better fuel mileage after all the boxes are switched over and more miles per change. After seeing a pic of a amsoil oil in a cummins tore down I was impressed with the cleaner engine that what I have seen on conventional oil. I am hoping I can run the same oil in my tractor to.
