guns in car

I dont have any guns, but I thought we had a constitutional right to have them? Does it say you can only have them in your house?

Why do you need a permit to do something that is your right?

In Iraq, papa Saddam encorages everyone to carry firearms! (Indeed, gun sales are booming in Iraq!)

Glock 21 (45 auto) with loaded with 14 hydrashocks, second clip has 14 FMJ's in it. Gun is in the center of the rear under seat storage. Not the most accesable place, but is out of plain sight.

If I remember correctly in AK it is legal to have a loaded gun in your vech if you are coming from or going to a rural location for hunting or other outdoor activities. So I am always going hunting if any one asks. I also remember that in AK you can not have the gun under your person and it may not be consealed on your person in the vech, even if you have a permit. It may be anywhere else in the vech.

Montana is in still in the old west, no concealed carry permit is needed unless the weapon is covered by clothes. Center console works for me and of course it's loaded. Have used it several times to put down injured road hit elk/deer in order to drag them off the road.

In the past, I have seen holsters designed for travelers to keep a handgun basically across there lower stomach. This holster attaches to your belt and is sort of an open cross draw for which ever hand your prefer. That way, if you are run off of the road or hit from behind, your gun won't fly off the seat, or bury itself way under your seat out of reach. Alabama allows CCW without much restriction. I keep a gun in my pocket as well as a larger loaded gun in a pancake holster in the car. The flat pancake holster slips in between the seats easily and keeps the gun right beside me, if necessary.

I keep my Ruger P90 . 45 in a holster just behind the passenger seat. Pretty easy to get to, but like illflem, it has only been used to put down deer, etc. I am not sure on IN's laws as far as vehicle goes, but I do have a permit.

CCW

I carry a glock 26 9mm in a in the waist holster where ever I go. I never leave it in the truck un attended, as that is a very good way for it to end up in the wrong hands ( theft) I am not required to have a permit as I am a police officer in Mich. When traveling out of state i check with the states i will be going to to make sure I can carry, Suprisingly many do not allow out of state officers to carry concealed. Some done even allow it if there on business too.

ALso check if your CCW permit will be ok in other states, again many are not.

Mich just went to a "shall issue" CCW system acouple of years ago for civilians. WHen we run a plate or a name in the computer there is a CCW message attatched. In Mich if for any reason u are stopped by the police YOU MUST advise them of the presence of your firearm if u have a CCW or u will be subj to arrest, forfeiture of the gun and permit.

Anyone have dark tinted windows? The Supreme COurt allows me to compell u to keep your door open during the stop or for me to remove you and your passengers from the veh for my safety. Upon removal u and your passengers will be searched for my saftey and I can see ALOT with the door open.

If I see a weapon ( and I dont care if you are an off duty cop, because unless u tell me i dont know) you will have a Glock 23 . 40SW "screwed in your ear" (figuretively)

Passenger in a veh were the driver is going to jail? Supreme court allows me to search you too for my safety.

Driving ( in michigan) and forget your license, have expired plates or similar traffic misdemenor offenses? we'll that gets the shinny bracelet routine and I search you and your car. Anything found is admissable.

Going out to the bar or drinking? leave the gun at home ( should go without saying) but it is unlawful to carry or posses a firearm while under the influence. Just had a cop from a neighboring city get locked up over that one.

Vehs usually fall under a search warrant exception where probable cause exists. The veh, being mobile, can cause the loss of evidence if a search is not conducted immediately. IN this case though if the PC is not very strong or circumstantial in nature I will secure the veh and call the judge. But a good example of how it is an exception is : if I stop a veh and smell burnt or raw marijuana in the veh and the driver tells me to **** up a rope and nothing is in plain view then I'm still going to lawfully search that veh with out a warrant and everything will be admissable.

Just one more piece of advance too, if you carry a firearm, make sure it is CONCEALED. I can not stress how nervous it makes a cop to see a magizine or ammo rolling around on the front seat or a handle of a handgun poking out from between the seats many a good intentioned citizen and a few off duty cops have looked down the barrel of my Glock over this one. ALso if you carry your gun and your registration and insurance cards in the same place (center console or glove box) let the officer know the gun it there before you start reaching for stuff.

Hopefully this helps someone. I strongly belive in the 2nd ammendment and urge people to carry firearms, LEAGALY if they choose. My concealed off duty weapon saved me and my wife on one occasion in a parking garage in Detroit (the robber brought a knife to a gun fight). ALways check with your state attorney generals office for current law and remember ignorance of the law is not a defense in the court room.

Hope this helps

This is a good site for CA people, they stay on top of pending legislation. Cheap to join also.

I'm an NRA life member, but you won't find a sticker on anything I own. I won't advertise for the theives.

CA is one of the most restrictive states,

HANDGUNS

California Penal Code section 12025 does not prevent a citizen of the United States over 18 years of age who is not within any of the classes excepted from firearm possession and who resides or is temporarily in California from transporting by motor vehicle any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person if the firearm is unloaded and in a locked container.

The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. For more information, refer to California Penal Code Section 12026. 1.

Its never been worth a felony conviction (lose your right to own firearms for life) for me to carry illegally.

If I remember correctly the US supreme court ruled that if stopped (legitimately) and asked by an officer if you have a firearm in the vehicle, you must reveal the presence of said firearm, an affirmative answer is probable cause for a search.

Personally I think all states should have shall issue laws, but they don't, so I would advise all to weigh the costs, and review the laws in your area before carrying concealed without a permit.

I'm not sure how your laws are, but in Colorado, the gun can not be concealed unless you have a Concealed carry permit.

So personally, I just put my 9mm in it's holster and throw it on the passenger seat, along with placing the clip in the ashtray.

I haven't had to use it yet, so I'm not to concerned about having the gun loaded.

Kev- Be REAL careful when in Denver like that!

You aren't allowed to carry concealed OR open in Denver.

Don't get stopped and let a city cop get a look at that firearm...

I was a Reserve Deputy on the Fulton County Georgia Sheriffs department. You can carry a loaded hand gun in the state of Ga. in the glove compartment without needing a carry permit. You can get a carry permit if you are not a convicted felon. Even with a carry permit it is agains't the law in Ga. to carry a concealed weapon under the seat of your car/truck. But with a carry permit you can carry it on your person. Get a copy of the law and follow it so you don't get yourself in trouble. I now live in Missouri and you can't get a concealed carry permit and you can't carry a concealed weapon in your car/truck :(

Fobus makes a pretty trick holster setup that can be mounted almost anywhere.

As for a CCW, not a reality in NJ, gub-ment dont trust taxpayers with guns .

I am licensed in other states, and I use Milt Sparks Ex IWB with either a Beretta 92, Govt model in 45 acp(got a C Rusty Sherric IWB for this one in addition to the sparks rig), or a combat commander (series 70) in 45 acp.

I recently bought a Colt pocket nine, and I'll be getting some leather for that soon.

FYI - Indiana

Anybody from IN should check your permit. Two different types:

1) Hunting/Target

2) Personal Protection

Hunting permit is quite restrictive while PP allows you to carry loaded in vehicle. I do need to check regarding putting it under seat.

I have filed and am carring a concealed carry bill in the Missouri House this year. It was heard in committee Tuesday night and voted due pass on Thursday. HB349 should be debated on the floor in early March... ... ... ... ... ... ... . there is still hope for Missouri

Fobus holsters

Fobus holsters are really great. They are my main plainclothes holster and mag pouch/handcuff case at work. They are indestructable plastic and pretty in expensive. I got mine about 4 years ago when they first became available in the US for 10 bucks at the uniform shop. I think they are about 20 now. I have seen, in the catalog, the "car" model that was mentioned eariler and it consists of a holster attached to a plastic arm that slides btween the seats.

Larry, that is great to hear. I like you feel that law abiding citizens should have the right to carry. Where can I get a copy of the proposed HB349

Thanks

give it away now

Lets let all the criminals know where we keep our guns now. I just leave my AK 47 and LAW rocket in the gun rack in the back window. And I have a 50 cal. mounted in the bed of my truck. Was thinking about an MLRS set up for the bed also. You know here in Los Angeles you dont travel without at least the above mentioned weapons or your out numbered and out gunned by any 11 year old on the street corner... ... . Can't let that happen. HA HA.

For my self I have a CCW and I either carry my beretta in my Milt Sparks VersaMax 2 or in a cheap holster between my seat and the center counsel. I do agree if you are going to carry do so with a loaded gun.
