Fuel Dilution strategies

6.7 fan clutch

I am hoping someone else has seen this and can offer some insight. Scenario: i leave work, drive 2 miles and always get caught by the same traffic light. Upon leaving said traffic light i get a pretty good cloud of white smoke from the exhaust, clears out after 100 -150'. The Only Time i have seen this is at this Traffic Light and it occurs nearly everytime. Alot Worse on cooler days, better to not at all on warmer days. There is roughly 1/8 mile downhill decent to this light that i normally coast too. 208,000 miles, all stock 6.7l auto trans. injectors were replaced around 500 miles ago, new crankcase breather installed at the same time. any help on this phenomenon would help. Thx!

Water absorbed from the catalyst after the cold start. When you go into the throttle at the light the water vaporizes.
Normal behavior.

There is a simple way to check it.
Let it idle for ten minutes with the idle up and the EB on - and then drive home.
If I'm right you won't see the cloud at the said intersection because your system is already up at operating temperature.

ive also Tried warming truck up for a while b4 leaving work and it will still do it. its crazy, also thats another thing is the EB doesnt always function.. also thanks for the replys OZ

Once the exhaust is warmed up, usually after a couple minutes shoudl nto see water vapor at all and it won't ever smoke out an intersection. That is either oil from the turbo or wet stacking the cylinders idling at the light. Try keeping the truck on idle up while waiting to keep the engine and exhaust hotter, on a cool it will cool way down at idle.

thanks cerberusiam, i have been advised when this started a few months ago that the turbo would be a high suspect. as i have mentioned the EB isnt always functioning when i use it either pulling my trailer. i'm goin to pull the down tube and inspect for any oil traces and start there. it just drives me up the wall when it does it.

Do you have any CEL's or DTC stored in the ECM? You should if the EB/Turbo is not always functioning correctly. You will need a code reader to find them or do the key trick to find them. Tell us if you have any and what they are.

These are very important for you to diagnosis the problem correctly and not to throw money at something that may not be an issue!

The only code that pops up is for the Regen/ DPF Full, cant remember actual number. Now my DPF filter Plugged up on me around 8 mos so i just deleted the DPF. i do however have another DPF to put back on just haven't done it yet. It was not Smoking until just recently though

Did you do the software for the DPF delete?

no i didnt, didnt plan on the dpf being off for this long honestly.

That's very important information.

You're dumping raw fuel into the exhaust, that's the issue.

Park the truck until you get a DPF on it. You're risking an exhaust fire.

This... White smoke is raw fuel making it to the exhaust. Your truck is trying to light off higher temperatures for the DPF to get some passive regen going and limit soot build up, and since there is no DPF that fuel is just blowing out the exhaust. This is not good, and either get the DPF back on there or run a program or use the DPF-R module to get your computer to see a high temp at the DPF so it won't dump that fuel. You are not seeing steam, as steam would not clog up the intersection as you describe.

thanks micheal, i believe the route i have decided on is a H&S Minimaxx race tuner for the dpr delete and egr. i'll sell this DPF filter i have. Ordering the tuner today

Reconsider the tuner, there is no support for that tuner and you are buying used. Not always a good result when doing that.

Cerber, which off the shelf tuner (if there is such a thing) would be recommended. this truck is just a daily driver, weekend warrior with utv hauling. i'm not really looking for more power as it has plenty to do what i need. i do like the DPF and EGR delete function i have read on about the H&S.

Simplest would be a Race Me Junior. If you ever want the option for a custom tune, or want gauges, then the Race Me Ultra is what you would want.

Race Me or an S67 with delete file would be simplest and cheapest. RaceMe or MM3 with gauges, controller, and custom tunes will be quite a bit more expensive.

The Smarty S67ME is no longer available in the US per MADS site. All Smarty tuners are now US compliant with the EPA.
You could also look at EFILive another tuner that will work for you.
