What is the GVW on the truck? The GVW on my 07.5 is 12,200#. The front axle cap is 5,200#. I think the new DRW trucks front is 6k and it needs to be that with the longer wheel bases.

TRUCK BODY FIT SEEMED LOOSE!? Like the body was coming off the chassis? Bolts rattling? CAB RIDING SIDEWAYS DOWN THE STREET.? Why would anyone get into any vehicle with a body not firmly attached to YHE Frame!? You are a BRAVE SOUL.....btw, the ride does get great with a load...if an 8 speed trans is better, a 16 speed would be the bomb! I suggest you stay away from extreme heavy duty trucks.... you won't like them...stay with a station wagon, you'll like it better...we all will fell safer...

DFB, what brought forth these comments? I have been riding in my 07.5 3500 DRW now for 11,000 miles on vacation towing 17,000# RV. That is 29,000#s total in a rough riding solid as a rock RAM. Our RAMs are NOT extreme HD trucks. Where did that come from? Why do I need a station wagon? What has me driving a station wagon got to do with you feeling safer? I climb into the first 3500 DRW 17' model and make a comment it rattled and doors were loose offend you? You must be a snowflake. My truck is an 07.5 with Suncoast towing transmission, the transmission is rated at 650HP. front end 988 snowplow springs, front Yukon locking hubs with HD spindles, rear air bags, rear spring modified with one full length leaf spring, AMSoil double bypass filters, 30,000# double air bag fifth wheel hitch with shocks and I tow with the Smarty set on 130HP setting. That is 480HP and nearly 1,000#s of TQ. It has 245x19.5 14ply tires. This is what I tow with. It will out tow any Late model aisin equipped truck out there. Now other than these comments I have not belittled anyones truck. Now if these truths have offended you that you are still a snowflake Xsswipe.
How do you get from a 17K trailer to 29K combined. That would mean you have a 12K truck?
It's all about what ones definition of "power" and "better". Torque being equal, HP will always be higher in a V configuration than an inline engine. HP is a calculation based on RPM and the inline Cummins engine will never spin as fast as one of the other V8 diesels. Seat of the pants will always be less. However, the inline engine is going to have a more ideal torque band for pulling a load at various speeds. In addition, for a given "power" it's going to use less fuel. What this translates into is on a 10 minute pull the Powerstroke is going to get to the top of the hill 15 seconds faster, but use 20% more fuel doing it. The higher RPM will also mean in the long run the Powerstroke will wear out faster. So it all has to do with ones priority and their definition of "better". You can easily build a gas motor to beat both of them up the hill... but you'll never pass a gas station and the motor will have a fraction of the longevity.
The new Rams need and 8 speed transmission.
It would only take one more lower gear in the Aisin to match the 4:10's starting a heavier load with 3:42's out back.
3:42's do not need another higher gear! I just to not see RAM doing this. We did 92 MPH in Cummins12V98 2015 truck getting of a freeway ramp with 4:10's. So usable top speed is not restricted by the Aisin and 4:10's. Conversely the 4:10 trucks with a third overdrive could match the 3:42 trucks as a freeway cruiser.
More time shifting for a 8 speed is not necessarily a good thing, when the engine can get the job done with 6 forward speeds.
Just my 2 cents worth. But what do I know I just have owned this truck for a little under 2 years.
You certainly know more than I... I don't have an aisin. Please let me ask a question so I can offer an opinion. Would you post the actual gear ratio numbers of the aisin or 68rfe? High to low or other.
I agree. With 4.10's and 1 more lower gear and 1 higher than the current 6 spd would be cool. That way I could keep up with Snoking's 3.42's
Nick
Why would you need a lower 1st gear with AISIN and 4.10's ??? At 35,340# I can easily get my load rolling on a grade.
Mine only weighs 15,520#![]()
Read a little closer. I did not say lower 1st. gear. I said 3.75 for 1st. which is the aisin low gear.

The 68rfe does have a better reverse ratio.! Notice the weight difference. Aisin weighs half again as much.
UH, I did NOT quote you.
