truck weight

Upgrading 15” to 16” wheels in TT

RVTRKN;1916028 I checked with my dealer and they will warranty my truck under the new weight registration said:
Dealers never warranty trucks, only Chrysler corp does that. I have never heard of warranty being refused because of the amount of money you spent on a license plate!

Thats a true statement, however the dealer is the one thats authorizes the repair unless its a big ticket item and then Star has final say. I have never heard of a manufactures rep. lurking around the dealers to prevent warranty. I have bought several trucks from them and get great service, and they knew why I purchased the truck in the first place. For example, if I bought my truck from my dealer and then I had warranty work done someplace else, because I had chipped it and it broke because of this, if the mechanic found this out, he most likely would void the warranty because he makes less money on the repair. Now, if I take it back to were I know everybody and they know I'm good customer that spends lots of money there, the mechanic more than likely will repair under warranty he if can.

I'm not trying to be a smart ***, I just look at it logically

Steve...

My son was a service manager for a large Dodge dealer for a few years. They will always attempt to persuade you not to have warranty items done, they only get paid what Chrysler allows on warranty work, which is nearly nothing! He quit them when warranty work was making him poor. If you have a problem, just keep going up the chain, it WILL get fixed sooner or later.

2500 vs Dually

Here is my 2 cents,

The first time I drove a CTD it was a friends 01 dually, HO. DOT rated trailor with 450 bales of hay. The truck was very stable. I currently drive a 2500. I would never dream of hauling that load with my truck. Could I get it rolling? Sure!! Could I stop it? Probably. Would my truck feel as stable going down the road--no way. I have pulled a trailor with load weighing 26K-trailor and load. I would much rather have had a dually. That is all I got to say.

I don't know why dodge even sells 2500 when the only difference is an over load spring in the rear, Cab light and some numbers on paper. Their chassis line up should be Ram, HD Ram (SRW), HDD Ram (DRW hint the second "D"). Just drop the whole 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500. I know there is a difference, in the Ford and Chevy 3/4 ton and 1 ton, but who cares we all love the dodge for the Cummins.

My . 02 is that I used to gross 32,500 # with a 78 W150 or 73 Camper 9000 SRW hauling 350 bu of grain to the elevator. I would love to have had either a 2500 or 3500 SRW CTD to tow that load! Since I balanced the load on the tri axle trailer, I had only a little over a ton of pin wgt on those trucks. Great brakes on all three axles actually stopped the truck as well as the trailer. I never hailed over 45-50 mph unless I was showing off to a Ford or Chevy. :)

You still couldn't give me a dually unless I couldn't adjust my pin wgt to less than 3K.

The newer trucks have much stiffer frames than the older models which translates into much less sway . i had an 06 SRW Mega Cab 3500 Pulling a 35 ft fifth wheel weighing 14 grand loaded . Bought a 14 Mega pulling the same trailer the truck felt and handled much more solid then the 06 . Not getting into the Dually vs SRW argument I am just saying you cannot judge a late model SRW based on the older SRW you may have owned

Why even bring an up old thread and than post to thread about facts about the new trucks which do not even applied when this thread was posted????? This thread is in fact almost 12 years old are you trying to build your thread count!

I can answer your question... there's a bunch of folks that a 2500 is plenty. My wife picked an 03 Ram 2500 QC 4x4 SB with Cummins HO and 48RE. She drove it 70 miles a day to and from work and we did some light hauling with it. I made it a hotrod, drove it for 5 years, then sold it to my niece. if you look, Ram sells more 2500s than any other of the HDs.

So, that's my perspective Anyhoo...

Cheers, Ron
