Well got the 3k gov springs in this weakend. John E did a nice job of doing this for me. Thanks again John!

The truck changed for the better now.

I finnaly got rid of the low end roughness that I have had since 98. I had been banging my head over this problem too long. Just glad its cured now. Piers was right when he said the stock gov spring probably not adjusted right. He did say that the 95's were known for this.

My low end really came too life. WOW :D . I actually have to take my foot out of it because it wants to GO. Before I really had to step into just driving normal. I took it up to 3000 rpm once and that was for the test drive. I kinda ran out of runway so I didn't really make it past 3k. 3k is plenty for me.

Now I'm debating to throw the 370's back in? Its probably gonna bug me till the point where I will put them back in again. . Gonna put DV's in this time though. I geuss I can kiss my stock clutch good by too. :( Looks like a transmission upgrade is in the future. :D

Hey Jeff,

Glad you like the GSK. I've got to find a way to cure this low end bog that my truck has. Stomp on it from a stop, sits there and blows smoke(not clouds of smoke) for about 3 seconds until it really gets wild. I've got plenty of mid-range power and torque, but no low end and really no top-end, truck defuels at 2700 and only goes 95 mph. :( Was thinking maybe the AFC Spring kit would help, but maybe this GSK would be for me also.

mopower, mine defueled at about 2600 and top end was 94 mph. After the 3K kit it will hit 3200 and 108 mph, but it gets very hot at that speed. (1500deg. ) only did it once for a test. :)

Thanks Ron. :)

Have you done any transmission mods? I'm trying to figure out what is causing this low power on the low end. It is torquey if you just tap the throttle, but no get up and go. Almost like a really bad case of turbo lag. It's almost like when your staging before drag racing. Smoke and noise, but no go. I don't really think it's the transmission slipping because the rpms are low at that point in time. If they would be high then it would be a possiblility that the transmission is slipping.

Low power

Trever, I would suggest that you do a search in the 12 valve forum on "Low Power" there are meny suggestions there that should give you plenty to check out.

My transmission has only been serviced by me with oil changes and adjust the bands each time. I have 96. 000 on it and It will do 0-60 in 9. 9 and 10 flat the two times that I hand timed it.

You have something thats not right going on with your rig, it should run better than that even at stock level.

Even without power upgrades an improvement in low end response can be made by rotating the AFC star wheel toward the engine 20 or 30 clicks. It will increase smoke but you can play with it to get a better response with minimum smoke.

Personally, I don't mind clouding up someone's windshield a bit when they are following too close.

Low power at low rpms is usually a fuel supply problem. The lift pump can sometimes put out the proper pressure without pumping the proper quantity of fuel. A fuel restriction should also be checked out, partially plugged fuel filters, blocked fuel lines and filter in the tank. If the tank is not vented properly it could build a vacuum which could act like a fuel restriction. When you get up into higher rpms and the lift pump is cycling faster these problems can often disappear.

I had someone do a little work on the pump right after I got it. First thing they did was disconnect the fuel inlet line and do something to the spring in the inlet, maybe compress it or something. Then they proceeded to turn the star wheel. After that I took it out on the tar and could roast the tires very well and break the back end loose. Later on they said that they turned the star wheel the wrong way though, which would be away from the engine i'm assuming. So should I go back in the pump and turn the star wheel, or slide the plate some, or slide the AFC housing forward? I can't say much bad about the mid-range power. I'm sure it could be better but i'm satisfied for now for it being a 1 ton. The smoke clears up right away after boost starts. The guy who had it before be said that he put a new lift pump on it. He said that he would send me the old one, with the old cam plate, and the instructions. That was at least 3 weeks ago though. ??? He also thought that maybe I should replace the fuel filter.
