Good-bye EcoDiesel, Hello Cummins

Hello everyone. I am wondering if anyone has swapped a diesel into a 4th gen gas 2500/3500? Even swap in a dumb old 12 valve into a 4th gen?. There is always the odd gas truck out there with low miles and a tired or blown up hemi in it that is very reasonably priced. Is there major differences in the drivetrain in them? It used to be a not too difficult in the older models. Thank you.

You'll need more than just an engine. You would basically need two trucks of the same gen to do the swap. You'll need engine, wiring, all modules, transmission, drive train and suspension components! Then you'd have all the time involved with swapping over. Unless you were given both trucks, have deep pockets and a whole lot of time, why? Yes it could be done, but is it worth it? You'd be better off find 2 diesel trucks of the same gen, one with blown engine or hit in front and one hit in the rear and make one whole from the two.

Can of worms. But, I like the idea of swapping a 12 valve engine. You might not be able to use the modern transmission, or instruments though.

Right on thanks fellas. It’s what I figured. I like to keep things as simple as possible, manual transmissions and Murphy gauges. One of these projects would be far more intensive than the older machines. If I was still a young and had lots of time I would try it.
