"Earthroamer UTE looks black to me... "

Good point! Just don't know how it got that way.

Point was, Layne would be the man with the info and is very personable so give him a shout for the answer on how the bumper can be coated. Seems the answer is either:

a. Ute now offers them in black, or

b. Layne is coating them for purchasers, maybe with additional cost--don't know

oh! or c. individual people are painting them... .

Now you got me wondering, I'll go call Layne to find out.....

Brian

The Answer

Ah ha! The answer is B and/or C.

Layne said that the Ute only comes in polished alum.

Bill S. (of Earthroamer fame) took his to the same place that does the DOR bumper coating to have the Ute done in black. There is an additional charge of somewhere around $200-350.

Hope this helps.

UTE

Just ordered mine today, the price quoted by DOR was 1550, +100 for new style winch plate. 500 dollar deposit. Sure would be nice if more guys got one mebbe the price could come down a little.

Ordered mine today !!!

Ahhh,

It will be nice having some protection up front!!! Oo.

Come on folks get your orders in... You will not be sorry... :D

Thank Layne

Stew

The Ute. Bullbar only comes from the factory in polished aluminum - which looks really good IMHO.

I had my Ute Bullbar powdercoated with the same black nylon coating that Layne uses on his DOR bumpers so the Ute would match my rear bumper. The cost to coat black was $251.

I forgot to ask Layne...

Does it come with a front receiver hitch standard ?

anybody know ?

Did my Ute ship yet !!! :--) LOL

Stew

I had sooooo many people ask about my bumper at the RMTDR meet Sunday I thought this post deserved to be pushed back up to the top.

I talked to Layne and he reports that he has only a couple people on the group buy list but if the interest is out there somewhere maybe this group purchase thing can still happen... ... .

Anyway, TTT.

I think the torque lift cost me $100. 00.

It was cheaper getting it through UTE than going straight to torque lift.

Liscense plate???

Is there or has anyone put on a liscense plate... I think Nebraska you have to have a front and back liscense plate...

If you click on the link in my previous post you will see my plate on the front. I had to drill holes to mount it but no biggie.

group buy

When last this thread was at the top, I placed an order (500 deposit) for my Ute, anyone know what the status is with them?

What's the magic number?

I received an email from Randy Cryer (head honcho for Ute based in the Pacific North West) earlier this week; He's currently over at Ute HQ in Australia and should be back in the USA anytime around now. (26 Jan 2003).

I have my Ute front bumper on (direct) order too from the same production run because there's no distributor in Europe. The only question I haven't yet seen (or answered for that matter) in this thread is

"Has the pre-order minimum been reached yet?"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ute won't commit to the next Dodge Bullbar production run until they've reached this magic number and that's when the clock starts ticking... ... followed by eager anticipation all round :D . Only then can realistic delivery dates be quoted (and believed).

Anyone heard any updates on the Ute group purchase ?

This thread originated some time back...

Just bumping this back up... LOL PUN intended

Has any word come forward if enough people have hopped on the band wagon ???

Does anyone live local to Layne, drop by or give Layne a ring and dig for info !!! If I call Layne it turns into a 1/2 hr conversation as I can be a chatter box... And that's long distance$$$ So, if you can save me a buck or two... LOL

I'm on the fence now whether to go with the DOR or Ute... Or, Or

Thanks,

Stew

Stew,

I'll ring Layne by the end of the week and query whether he had anymore people sign up or not. Last time I called he had received a whole bunch of calls but only 2-3 that were actually interested enough to place an order for it. I don't think he made group minimum but I'll find out for sure. It's too bad there isn't more interest in these (group purchase). Cause it's rare to find ANY break on the prices for aftermarket bumpers (especially the good ones :D )

Anyway, I'll ping Layne soon and report back hard numbers.....

Brian

Wow, nevermind, caught him today on the first try. He said he only has two people that commited to the order and another one that wants a call back if it looks like it might happen. So maybe three is all that confirmed... .

Unfortunately that still leaves 12-13 more to respond and order with him before the bulk purchase goes thru.

It's really up to the TDR members now if they want this. Layne's willing to sit on this for a while since it's obviously a big investment for both him and the purchaser but it may just slowly get buried and lost if there's no interest.
