I called Layne but he told me 8 weeks to get a bumper so i bought a buckstop. It took them 1 week to get me my bumper. Its got the front reciever and pull hooks. Its heavy since I got the 12K Warn to go in it but I like it. I might go ahead and get the 2" skyjacker lift now

Countdown - 11.

Well add one more to the list. Layne said that we needed eleven more members for the price break. I asked him about a few things and this is the information I jotted down.

Bumper fits the "Standard Model," i. e. not Sport, from '94 to 2002. 5 (until the body style change). This will be a new production run that will accomodate a larger 12k to 15k Warn winch. The bumper will be moved out (not noticable) a bit to accomodate the larger winch. The bumper bolts to a steel frame along with the winch which inturn bolts to the frame. Access holes for the winch control will be both left and right so you can use either the smaller 8k winch or a larger 12k-15k winch that have the control on the opposite side.

Layne is currently waiting for delivery of the prototype. Again, this will be a polished alumunium finish. FYI.

Add one more to the order. Just called DOR. I'm in.

I had no idea the UTE was as stout as it is until I saw Earth Roamer's truck in person. I gotta have one!

T-Bone

I don't see any tow hooks on the front or places to attach a shackle/clevis.

Is this something that can be added? Or are they there and just not too visible?

Sport Bodystyling query?

Are you absolutely sure about that? When I placed my order direct, (because there's no European distributor for Ute. ), there was no mention made of any incompatibility with the Sport body styling. Can you elaborate on the details please?

Jason, care to comment perhaps... . ??

Even though it is not advertised as such, it will fit a Sport model. The Ute mounts have a ton of adjustment in them-and it's needed to push the bumper ahead as far as you can to make room for the grille to drop in behind it. You could also cut the bottom of the grille I suppose (not on my truck though! :) ) or swap back to a '98-back Sport grille with the flat bottom. I liked solution # 1 though, so that's what I went with! :D

I think there's a pic showing the forward shift in my Reader's Rigs gallery, but there seems to be a circular reference in there right now with the server move. Hopefully in a little bit here this will be corrected so I can check it out-if not I'll snap a new one.

I want one

I want a UTE. OK, I called up and put my $500 down. Yahoo, man, is that going to look nice. The old one is getting a little worn. Oo.

Wow, I think that makes the countdown at T-9 now. RADdodge was -11 then TBone is -10, monkfarm makes -9...

If there are 9 more people interested in an aftermarket bumper this may actually fly!

I really want one but may to be able to find a one here for the same price. If not I will be in, that story Steve StLaurent told about hitting the car with his buckstop convinced me I need a bumper.

Here is a question, is UTE going to ship directly to each person or are all the bumpers going to DOR and then being shipped to us?? The reason I ask is that I want my powder coated black and I don't know if there is anyone here in AK that can do it.

JHansen - I checked out the pics of your bumper on the sport model, looks good. Could you take a pic up close of the grill fitting behind the bumper and how it looks around the headlight area? You can just email the pic to me if you want. Also is there anyplace to mount my air horns and tank on the back side of the bumper?

John/JR2 - It may be worthwhille checking to see if that powdercoat finish can be applied at the factory? As my Ute is on the same production run, and because there's no distributor in Europe, mine will be shipped direct to me in England. You might want to talk to Randy Cryer at Ute USA direct to see if that option is available to you, because of your (remote;) ) stateside location.

Brian/Sreborg - see my posting earlier in this thread about the magic number. Are you including mine in the NASA-style countdown, before the production run begins?

no paint from the factory

(tried to post this once and it didn't take... here's another go at it. )

The factory manufactures our extruded aluminum Bullbars and Ute Beds. They can make them in satin or polished finish, but not time or equipment for painting... .

Talk to Layne at DOR and I am sure that he can arrange for painting and give you a cost on it.

Cheers,

Ok, JMC makes a good point. Let's lay out the order like this:

1. Unknown-will get from Layne

2. Unknown-will get from Layne

3. JohnMcIntyre

4. monkfarm

5. RADdodge

6. TBone

7. Open

8. Open

9. Open

10. Open

11. Open

12. Open

13. Open

14. Open

15. Open

--Min requirement met here--

16+ Available

Orig requirement is 15, so we're down to 9 openings left (assuming the two Layne had wasn't one of the above names already). Layne believes he's up to 5 solid's with one maybe so that jives with this list.

Anyone need a real front bumper that doesn't have one yet? How fast do you travel in deer (moose) country? Feel secure? Missed the last production run and hoping there are other TDR members that might want to commit to a group purchase. Lots of info in previous threads. I missed those. Doesn't pay to drop out for a while! Oo.

I think this is a real good idea for the people that do travel in deer country. If I had the money I would buy one now. I'm going to have to wait until I hit a deer and let my insurance company pay for at least part of the new bumper :(

I'm in

As a matter of fact I've BEEN in. . Left my deposit months ago, I didnt know it wasnt gonna happen until X number of people committed though... Is there any way to just buy the bumper and not get caught up in this "group buy" thing?

I don't remember where I read it (probably on a search in the TDR for the last UTE bumper group purchase) but apparently a dealer (Canada I believe) bought some from the last run. I think the price is like 2100 or so. Don't really remember the details, but that was my impression. The last run cost was $1100, and this time it's going to be $1500. At first, I thought the price was going to be less if we got enough buyers together, but I guess I was wrong. It pays to pay attention. I completely missed that first run. Wasn't even on the radar scope. Oh well.

hurry up an wait!

Anyone on the reserve list heard anything about the UTE order? With my luck I think I'll hit another antlered rat before I get the new bumper...

Here's the scoop...

The fact of the matter is that the factory has been backed up with a huge Toyota release for several weeks now. (A new Toyota for Australia called the Prado. ) We have not received an exact production date as of yet, but if you want to secure your Ram Bullbar at a decent rate. . you should nail one down now. It may be a couple of months before you see them though. The other alternative is to get one from Canada. They received a container in December. It will be more expensive and you will pay duty and shipping costs. If you must have one now though, that is the best we can do. Sorry for the delays, but that's the way it is at this point. I wish I had better news, but we can not let quality suffer just because we want it today...

I will try to keep you posted on our progress as soon as I know something. Keep in touch with Denver Off Road as well. Kevin will be taking orders and reserving for those who make deposits.

Cheers,

UteMan

Anyone know the weight of these bumpers? Is the DOR aluminum? Price? I want to keep from adding any more weight to the front end than I have to.

Thanks.
