Friends,
Just thought I would share I swapped leads on field connectors on the alternator... Now truck starts stronger. It was wired wrong on the previous non-functional alternator too. I have about the least experience of anyone on alternators, so can't say succinctly it matters, but sure seams like it. When starting, the voltage to the coil is increased while starting, then reduced while running.
Truck is clean, but didn't wax... just a little pooped out from washing it. We took it to local Whataburger, saw some folks look at it then come in. After ordering, they went table to table asking who's truck it is. got some nice complements. When were leaving, about ten folks walked outside to here it start up and watch us drive off. I'm pretty proud.
Anyhoo, happy to hear from the gallery if I'm correct or if I have a vivid imagination about the exciter field (?) connections of the alternator.
Greg, that wouldn't happen to have a Challenger wrapped around it, would it? I thought in the new hitch pic, is saw a bit of yellow.
Cheers, Ron
