Curious......what funnels....and what is so hard about it? Remove cap, thread the spout on, pour.

Well, its a lot more work to open the box, try to hold it upside down with that flimsy corrugated hose in the filler neck compared to the 10seconds it takes me to put 4.5 Gal in at the Loves with the pump... just sayin... But I also do oil my filter from the side so you know I aint right in the head :rolleyes:

Ahh, I see. I use the Super Tech DEF from Walmart......just a plastic jug, no box. I think I only used a box once....not sure why they package them that way.

If you watch for sales you can get it well under $20/gallon - generally $17-18. Then take advantage of Mobil rebates which they run several months each year @ $9/gallon. My last purchase I ended up with a 4 gallon case for less than $40 after rebates.

As to DEF prices....at least it isn't this bad. Yet?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...-critical-diesel-fuel-ingredient-DOUBLES.html

Fuzzy math conversion would put that pump price at around $8/gallon.

Best I am seeing is 19.99 per gallon at speedway , but I may go with Walmart , I can get it locally , won't need to ship ,but its only about $1.50 more per gal .

Curious......what funnels....and what is so hard about it? Remove cap, thread the spout on, pour, have it leak all over the running board from the threads, removing to correct that leak: nozzle pops out and flings some DEF everywhere, fix the thread leak, 2nd try it leaks out the vent. So there you are trying to hold a box, keep the nozzle in, and plug the vent with a finger.

Fixed some omissions about the true experience. :p Best done in the parking lot where you bought it so DEF doesn't stain your driveway or garage floor. Some places will even help you make a mess putting it in.

I have used exclusively the boxed def for the last 160k miles (nothing against getting it at the pump it's just the closest one is 35 miles away one way, the wrong direction from where I normally travel). I normally use the Walmart supertech but there have been occasions where I couldn't get it or was out somewhere else and had to use some other brand. I guess I dont understand all this about it being such a pain to use. I wont say I have never spilled/leaked some but it is pretty rare and those few times it was very minimal. By my quick math of 2% def usage at 18mpg that is 72 containers of 2.5 gal def and maybe 4 or 5 leaked. Never have used the funnel, the plastic spout on the box has worked good.
I just picked up a box at walmart day before yesterday and noticed the supertech went up to just over 8$ previously $7.88 and $6.88, which they were out of, the blue was now just over $14 previously $12.xx and the platinum was now $20 previously $18.xx a box.

Platinum DEF.. hahhah.. is that sold by Ford for Ford?.. I hope to dear god they dont come out with Limited DEF... it'll be $30 a box :cool:

I am spoiled, I pass by 4 truck stops on my 10mile commute home so its a no brainer for me, did the box BLUE DEF once and decided its not for me.. I would do the boxes if I had to but no sense in the extra work when it so easy and convenient in my case.

I think I've had more DEF spills from the pump....until I got the trigger figured out......ease into it.

An art form at the pump. The go slow and one click off no top off advice given here has helped me keep the mess down. I actually prefer the pump from a low mess perspective.

My local Walmart got cleaned out of DEF and to make matter worse the manager told me he only got two gallons delivered this week. So the shelf full of DEF is completely gone. I didn't see any at other stores either. Interesting....

a caller on a national radio show this a.m. mentioned the DEF shortage. supposedly said it will come here in january. i dunno about that, or if the caller was blowing hot air. but the fact that it was mentioned gives me pause. still no rotella at wallyworld in denver area. cheers comrades! :)
Picked a case ofT4 15/40 in Evergreen at NAPA last week

It's getting bad out there.....
Cream Cheese Shortage

For just a few days this holiday season, a limited number of people will be able to spend $20 on dessert and charge it to Kraft, owner of Philadelphia Cream Cheese. The premise: People who can't bake cheesecakes because they can't find cream cheese can get another baked good on Kraft's dime.

------------------

Most people think I'm poking fun, but I make a mean cheesecake. Best in class, best in show at our 2013 County Farmers Fair. It was a recipe, technique, and sorta family thing that was passed on to me from my Aunt.

When they were judging we were all standimg outside the tent there was a decent delay past the time they told us to come back and hear the results, I had never entered something like this before. Then 2 local on duty police officers pull up, here one of their moms was a judge and called their son who on duty and told them you gotta stop over here and have this, it was pretty funny when we got the plate back it was empty they ate the whole thing.

The deal is with this kinda thing is we only made cheesecakes when the ingredients are on sale, like around Easter, blocks would be .99 cents, and sour cream would be like 1.99, I have passed on the tradition to a few folks and shared the deal, but it's never about the cheesecake it about spending time with folks making and enjoying it.

Happy holidays everyone and supply chain might adjust things this year but keep the important stuff at the forefront, family, friends, giving back, and before we know it we will have new things to chat about.

Thanks @Timd32 for sharing something nice for the holiday!... I sure would like a piece of that cake... might have to figure out how to make one when Cream Cheese and Rotella T are back instock.

Keep in mind Walmart is not on the approved vendors list on Mobil's website. You have to buy from someone on the list to qualify for the rebates.

Walmart ran out of cream cheese around here for a little while, but the other grocery stores had it. I make cheese cakes, so I did notice the shortage at my Super Walmart! As for 15w40 I just bought Delvac. When Oreilly's had Delvac for $10 something per gallon I bought a few cases. Before that I was buying only Rotella fairly cheap off Amazon. I can't tell any difference, everything still runs. I'm not brand loyal, last time I bought Castrol 15w40 because thats what was in stock. Nothing blew up, but there is always Turbo Tech oil. Hopefully I can keep my old diesels running forever and never need DEF!

I see that . Walmart was on the previous rebate that ended Nov 30 . The rebate was $9 per gal . This current one ending this month ,only had 4 contributing vendors , and its $10 per gal. on the Mobil Delvac Extreme 15/40 , but some were at least $30 per gal. , Walmart is $21.42 per gal. I may save a couple bucks after the rebate ,but not worth messing with the rebate .

I searched the contributing vendors on this current rebate ,one or two didn't even offer the Extreme 15/40 synthetic, unless I missed something and the others as said were nearly $10 per gal. more ,so the rebate was a wash getting it at Walmart ,shipped free to the front door . Unless you know of one that made sense . The only contributing Auto Parts I saw listed that offered the rebate was , Advanced , Autozone, Pep Boys ,and O'Reilly .
