I really liked my 02 but when I considered what was coming ahead with the EGR fear, uncertainty, and doubt I decided it was time to purchase my "last" truck. Although there were other factors like the 3500 dually, the four doors, the bigger disc brakes, the CMR quiet injection, the hydroform frame, Oh... and the Gen3 styling:rolleyes: I decided to go for it. I haven't seen a whif of smoke yet.

I can't imagine what a 07 will be like.

The '04 is 50-state certified, which means it complies with Calif. requirements. The '03 HO doesn't qualify on the left coast, which means it may be the last non-choked engine Cummins makes.

I too haven't seen smoke (I even have an EZ), although soot is left behind when I "get on it," if you know what I mean.

Cummins spent a million bucks to take smoke away, how come I want to add it back? As long as my truck runs (and it does big time, now that it's been "helped along a little"), I'm happy!

I had an 03 and it never smoke once, I now have an 04 and this thing smokes, of course not all time, but when I get on it, it will. I was going to post a ? about this of why this 04 gives out the little black soot cloud when taking off and or getting on it. Any one else with an 04 600 that throws out a little black poof. I even had to clean the black soot off of the bumper and fender.

I got a Nissan 280z the other evening..

I was coming down 281 (4 lane, median divided highway) into town. . As soon as I got into the city limits, I noticed some jap car flying up onto my rear... I let him get on there, turn the 10 plate and delivery valves up to 5x5:D , let him get right on my back bumper and stand up in my seat, mashing down on the soot generator, completely fogging out the idiots behind me... Well, up about a ½ mile ahead, the light is turning yellow... RACE TIME!!!! I have never raced a Japanese Corvette, so I figured, what the heck, right? Well, I made SURE he had the right lane (Soot drains on that side) and I am sitting at the light. . I hear his little hamster/gerbil powered ride revving up all the family of rodents under the hood, incinuating a race. . Awesome! So I scoot up, start mashing my No-AFC Spring Soot pedal, making nasty black plumes of smoke, some of which are going straight into his car, all the time scooting up, further and further... By the time light gets to green, we are in the middle of the intersection. . Well, back to the green light... Cross light turns yellow, which means Pre stage for me, and I ease it into 3rd gear, and bring Black Betty up to 2200 RPM... As the light goes green, I ease off the clutch, making a big nasty cloud as I launch. He jumped out in front of me, but as soon as I grab 4th, I was on the side of his door! As I passed him up, I noted that then I felt bad for him... He got to hear the ear piercing loudness that a 4 inch straight exhaust makes! As I was passing him, he just waved as if to say, You win. Kind of reminds me of the look on the guy's face in the hemi commercial when he gets spanked by the pickup. . the guy and his passenger had the same expression when they came by me... I guess they realized its time for a new car, or not to play if they cant hang with a truck twice their weight and still whoops their @§§! Oh well, just thought I would post that. .

BTW, I got to play with a BMW 330 Monday. . They are slow from a 60 roll... off the line they are quick, but catch them on the highway, and its not even worth playing with!

Gagging on those furrin cars

That's funny, Charlan. I'm still glad it's your truck and not mine that's eatin' up all those other cars. But I used to do that when I was younger, so have fun, guy!

Kinda like what happened last night to me, charlan.

I was going north on Academy to meet my g/f and her mom at Sears. I see the ricer behind me and don't want to make him too upset by smoking him out so I just row through the gears. Well, he obviously thinks I am going too slow so he passes me (3 lanes one way) on the left and scoots along. I see his pillar with gauges but can't hear any type of turbo or super so who knows.

I think the thing was an Alero. Who makes that anyway?

So I am cruising, and he only stomps on it when he's next to me. He passes me and his little underage g/f is looking toward me but not at me, kinda giving that look.

So I get over so he is behind me. I start out in first, then jump to second, slow this time. He knows I am modded by now but is still tailgating me so as soon as I hit third I punch it and lose him in a cloud. I can see the poor guy on my right rear in the middle lane swerving over. Poor guy, wasn't trying to get him.

The rice boy backed off and didn't see him again!

Watch out you don't challenge a garnet red '03 3500 SRW with an "ADIESEL" license plate on Academy. Hee!

Truck's pretty easy to spot. Check the User's Rigs. Gotta Laramie w/a Sport grille, which is a little different. Also got a black Access roll-up tonneau. I'm usually movin,' if you know what I mean :) I live up the pass so I stay off Academy as much as I can. Too many trucks want to take me on and I hate embarrasing them. Hard on the tires too. Actually, I'm not running anything special ... just an EZ is all.

Yesterday I was pulling out of the supermarket, onto 281 (Same road as story above, just the other direction now) and there was a 90 F250 N/A Diesel. I was about to pull out, and he lunged forward to cut me off, and I had to back up again, waiting for an open spot. Well, the car behind him was kind enough to let me in, so the first chance I got I went to go around him. He tried to speed up, but those trucks are DOGS without turbos! so I got up just ahead of him, and he changes lanes, to get behind me. . Well, as I passed him he looked and laughed at me and my truck (So I am guessing) so when he got on my back bumper I let him have 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th gears full of smoke, as if to say THANKS FOR NOT LETTING ME IN! When I was turning off the highway he honked and was waving his hand by his nose... My truck may smoke, but its alot quicker than that old dog of his!

Last smoke story I'll ever have w/my 1st CTD

Well I'd been slacking off on sharing this smoke story, and I guess I had better go ahead seeing as "onestackedram" is currently on his way home with my 97 Reg Cab 2500 which he just purchased from me early this morning.

Was on my way to work one day earlier this past week, and just before you top the last little rise before the 1st red light of the town I work in is a sub-division. Well a unmistakeable fire truck pulled out in front me of from this sub-division and I was doing probably 65-70mph (not near the truck, but closing fast) when he did so I had to slow it down sooner than I wanted too.

Well knowing that fire truck I just "KNEW" it had to be somebody I knew driving cause I know everyone in that station that is allowed to drive, and EVERYBODY in my town knew my truck. :-laf

Well as we get up to the redlight I see in the side mirror its an infamous buddy of mine who's all of 5'4" tall well known guy in my hometown who can drive like no other I've seen. Well as we approach the red light and it turns green he gets into the right hand turning lane... ... mind immediately thinks..... your gonna pay for that back there :-laf So with my stacks being just the right height I got over as close as comfortably possible to the truck and just as he was leaning out the window to yell something at me I HAMMERED IT! :-laf :-laf Oo.

He immediately got his head back in the window and made his turn!!! :-laf he. . he... . got my revenge, but sadly that's the last smoke story I'll have with that truck. However my next truck will be a smoker with stacks too!! Oo.

I got smoked!

I have a 3rd gen - stock non-smoker, but got smoked by a bombed 3rd gen!

Girlfriend and I were on the way to dinner last night and I was coming to a red light. In the lane in front of me was a silver 3rd gen like mine except shortbox towing a bumper pull horse trailer with the box full of hay bales. He was behind a couple small cars and I figured he would be going pretty slow. Little did I know...

I needed to get into the left lane eventually and since it was clear went for it as the light turned green. I made a remark to the GF about that truck looking like mine and while looking in the rearview said, "holy #$%^ - look at the clouds of smoke!"

I guess the other guy saw my TDR sticker on my back window so he quickly changed lanes and came up behind me quickly with smoke billowing. He changes lanes again and comes up beside me, slows down and his GF and him wave, then pull in front of me, slow down a bit - no smoke yet - and then punches it sending me a huge smoke signal!

He then changes lanes again and we meet at the next red light. I rolled down the passenger window, said "nice truck", and gave him a thumbs up. Him and his GF waved back and revs up his straight piped rig.

That's my story that actually involved 2 willing parties - smoker and smokee!

I was taking my mom to go pick up her truck, when one of those toyota solara (I think thats what they are called) came flying up behind me, and stuck on my rear bumper... Well, car in front of me was turning, and I told my mom to watch... she loves seeing the clouds, as well as making them while driving my truck too. . Anyways, so the car turns, and this guy behind me is so close I can barely see his windshield:mad: ... Ok, have it your way dude. . I grab 4th gear, and lay into it Wide open... there is such a nasty cloud behind me, that the car friggin disappears for about 4 seconds, only to emerge right dead in his tracks where he apparently stopped due to the lack of visibility! After that, he wouldnt even get behind me at the stoplight, rather he stayed about 4 car lengths back! Oh well, it was funny, and mom laughed at it too...

I swear our trucks have a big magnet on the tailgate! Granted I am not as bombed as some of you, but I can let em have it if I do it right. A few guys I did it to 3 times or more, to get them off my butt and they came back each time (probably to get my license plate # lol).

Well my latest story may not be one of great importance to most, but it was this trucks first 'victory' in the midwest, as it spent most of its life down in the south. I have had this truck for exactly 9 days now, and already much has changed on it... .

I was in KC this past weekend visting my father and helping him with some things. On Sun. evening I was working my way out of KC coming home. I was sitting at light when a Duramax pulled up beside me and the driver was very complimentary of the stacks and the sound those 5" turnouts make. He then asked if I had done anything to it or where the stacks merely a cosmetic addition... I LAUGHED... . and said "ohhhhhh I've added a little fuel to it". He then said well lets see what she's got. And almost a mere second later the light changed and with a clear view ahead of us we launched. He stayed with me through third, then I grabbed fourth and the power band hit... . I could barely see those cute little GM headlights behind me. He caught me 2 lights later and we pulled into the next parking lot and stopped to chat. He was a gracious loser I will say that, had great admiration for pure power. So after sharing a few details about what I have done, (key word a FEW), he showed me his truck. Not much yet, other than a vanaiken box, and 4" exhaust. He promised me that he would catch me again when he is more prepared, I promised him he better do it quickly cause more is already in the works for mine, and it wouldn't be long that I would be way beyond what he'll be able to do with his little v-8... LOL.

Now I know that may be a slight bit, egotistical, but hey when you've only had the truck for then 8 days, and already you are smoking your first victim in a very dominating fashion, you can't help but have a slight bit of ego...

Russell

You know reading these stories is making me want stacks now. I never used to like them personally, although they are cool, just never thought I would need or want them, but with my current exhaust being in the way of my air ride I am making, and the sweet sound they make, just maybe :)

Nick

Smoking question for you guys with stacks - where does the smoke end up when you accelerate at highway speeds? The pullers with stacks end up shooting the smoke up quite a ways, but at highway speeds I'm sure it doesn't get that high due to the wind - just not sure how much actually gets whipped back down onto the car behind you?
