To get back on subject...
Was heading to my afternoon class today. It's been a pretty miserable day w/ rain and hail (up to 1/2", but soft stuff, so no damage to Bullula, thankfully) and the roads were still a touch damp (but hadn't rained for an hour or so).
Pull up to the last stoplight before school, and it's basically a racing lane. Two lanes, changing to one land in about 50 yards. The car in the left lane next to me is a white 2-door civic w/ a fart can. Not a really ricey car, but enough so you know he thinks it's fast (no wing, just the stock spoiler). He also has SAE (sigma alpha epsilon, a frat on campus) stuff written ALL OVER THE THING!! Across the back window, side windows, everywhere! So anyway, we both watch the side light turn yellow and he starts creeping forward on me for a hole-shot... not on my watch I say back and inch forward myself. He's sitting there revving his engine back and forth, but won't look over at me (wanted the best RT I guess.

) So, I look back forward (notice, I didn't stage or build boost) and the light goes green! Well, he's outta there like his hairs on fire so my soot pedal goes to the floor... . remember, no boost, so sluggish as she is (Before the t-stat opens, which it hadn't, Bullula doesn't like to get out of her own way) it takes a lot of coaxing to get her rolling. As I get across the intersection and check my pax mirror, I realize I don't have much smoke coming out (none in fact!) so I check the other mirror... . Ah, there it is. Turns out there was quite the crosswind blowing this afternoon. Anyway, she finally spooled at the other side of the intersection and I caught up to Mr. Fraternity. That's when I realized something was seriously wrong!!!

All of a sudden I stopped gaining ground on him... I had fell behind, caught back up, and now we were running even! What was going on I thought to myself? Here I am looking down into his car from right next to him, but I'm not blowing his doors off like usual. :{ That's when I brought my ears back to the present and thought to myself "wow, that was a really short first gear (shifted basically as soon as it came to full spool) and second gear (nearly instant shift out after first) and now I'm in third getting ready to tach-out and I don't have OD engaged... . that is the instant the rear-tires regained traction and I was gone! Ah yes, slick roads and power don't mix well for racing applications!
Mr. Frat didn't like being showed up and rode my drop-hitch all the way into the parking lot at school, but then parked a ways away from me. I decided not to smoke him anymore than had already been done, as I think he had his penance for the day.
On a side note, I never took the box off 1x5. I like doing something like that and then realizing I still have 80 RWHP at the touch of a button! At this altitude I still clouded the intersection pretty good, but not enough so people behind me missed the light... always next time.
