hooked up a trailer.. tested lights.. turned truck off.. wont crank...

checked all trailer connections, no shorts. ..

had original batteries.. time to replace anyway

thoughts?

You don't say how long you left the truck turned off with the trailer still plugged in. Dodges (at least through my 2011) do not have battery isolation relays as standard equipment - the B+ pin in the 7-pin Pollack connector is always hot. Therefore, if the trailer is left plugged into the truck for substantial periods of time (and depending on what 12 volt loads are active in the trailer), the parasitic load from the trailer will discharge the truck's batteries.
