Looking at the new 2016 trucks... I'm seeing stickers prices of over 75000!!!!. We just bought our last new vehicle, can't swing it any longer. Funny how these trucks lose 50 percent of that price right after registration! Where does that equity go? We put 23000 down on 10,000 off Msrp and are barely even on trade. Will anyone here buy another new truck?

To start with I would price new at Dennis Dillon in Idaho! Selling or trading in a 1 year old truck is your real issue. If you did not get 10-11K off sticker on the 2015, then you are really up a creek without a paddle.

Remember most dealers make more on used vehicles than new one and/or those that walk in and blindly pay what the dealer is asking for a vehicle.

What happen to the thought of 19.5 rims and tires for 3-3.5K? SNOKING

I certainly never will. They have gotten way too pricy. My 05 will last a long time and after that I'll consider a good preowned.

I'll keep buying a new truck every 5 or 6 years.

My 2005 was almost 40K which I sold for 30K in 2011, my 2011 was around 50K. my 2016 was just under 60K. That is life.

My income keeps going up. My home value and office building values keep climbing too. We use to complain about $4 burgers at Red Robin. Now it's easy to spend $40 on a date there.

Maybe your truck's repair for the back glass and cab damage showed up on a CARFAX and is hurting it some

Yeah, unfortunately there is so much markup on trucks you have to "play the game" to get the price you should be paying, and then even at that you still have a huge initial depreciation. This is one of the reasons I kept my 2nd gen so long.

Sticker on my '15 was $78,300. I think I got them down to ~$62k if my memory serves me. I put $20k down on top of that. My truck turned a year old only a couple weeks back and I'm sure if I were to sell it this very second I'd still probably barely have any equity, if any. All this excludes the additional $8,200 I put into my short to long bed conversion. New vehicles are certainly not a place to "invest" money. :) Lucky for me I kept the last one 14 years, and hope to keep this upwards of that long assuming all these new fancy electronics don't fry themselves before that point. ;)

Not sure how my Ram will hold its value but I just traded a 6 1/2 year old Platinum F-150 with 130,000 miles on it and they gave me about 46% of what I paid for it! The new truck was discounted a hearty $10,000 off of invoice too... Yes it was expensive but so was the Ford...

Most people don't sell a year old truck. ( GS Brockman is the only one i am aware of who did.)

Please don't take this as criticism. I have no plans to criticize. Just interested in why the switch from a 2013 to a 2014 in such a short time (less than 2 years).
I think several here would be interested why. Was it an expensive move? Where there more rebates in 2014?
Did you trade in the 2013 to the dealer (or sell it yourself as used)? Are some dealers willing to make good offers to get a better mix of new/used vehicles? Did you just get a lucky deal (being in the right time and find a dealer that wanted to swap trucks and gave a good deal)?

On another note, I just built and priced a 2016 with the same trim/options as my 2013. Both had sticker prices of around $49,000. I actually paid under $40k. But with taxes it was over $40k

I don't think prices will go up until they make major changes. Someone on here suggested those improvements have been pushed off to 2017 or 2018.

Don't know what the deal is with your truck, but I've not seen anywhere 50% loss on my last 2 Dodge/Cummins. My 2012 stickered for $60,100 and I bought it for $47,900. Last Sept. during the safety recall/buyback, FCA gave me $44,000 with 48k miles on the truck. So I lost $3900 for 3 years of driving and 48k miles. Similarly, my 04.5 bought new was $31,000. I sold it in 2012 with 145k miles for $18,500. Not even 50% less for 8 yrs. of driving. Something isn't kosher in your scenario, imo!

I think it's only reported on damage after a certain amount... 1200 is no biggie on carfax.. Many new cars have had repairs on body or paint ...But then again, you could be right..thank you GSBROCKMAN.

Dealer offered 17000 for my 04.5 dually 4x4 nv5600 with 113000 miles. Sold that the next day for 25000.. They came off about 10500 from sticker. After all said and done I owe about 42700.... Plus another 3300 for max care...Snoking's idea of another tire maybe the answer, however, I do have 3:42s. This may require front and rear ring and pinion swaps... Either 3:73, or 4:10s.. This is about 1200....

I have no horse in this race. I built n priced a similar package as my 04.5 sometime in 15, and it really wasnt too far off the chart. IIRC below 60k. Considering how loaded up they are now able to be, and all the added technology, safety, and emission equipment, its justified. Considering mine was 42 almost 11 years ago- not too bad.

Similarly, my /15 Bighorn, blackout pkg., w/ Aisin stickered for $62260 and my price was $50, 641. Lots of truck for that price imo.

I was at the dealer last week getting some campaigns done on my 08. The has a beautiful 2016 2500 with ALL the toys on for $84k. Now that is CANADIAN $. They told me they has a Mega Cab Dually, again loaded and MSRP on it was $97k. They sold it right away. I don't buy new, never have. I bought my 08 last summer off my friend who bought it new. I paid about half of what he did and it only had 113 KMS ( about 70k miles ) on it. Just not worth it to buy new in my humble opinion. To be honest I just can't afford it. I don't like payments either.

To each their own. David

Here i am complaining about the prices. I guess im fortunate to be able to buy one. Sometimes a man needs to be thankful for what he has.

After I paid the taxes and registration on my 2016 I paid just over 52k . But a lot of that went to Taxifornia.

I will not buy another new truck. This one I hope will last me another 20 years. If it does by then who cares.
