- Practice --- use a spotter for just that... . spotting
- Keep your head in the truck while moving! Once you spin your head around to look at things the eye-hand steering wheel thing gets all messed up.
- Use the power mirrors ---- see above
- Get out and look if not 110% sure - set brake when doing so
- Decide on acceptable hand motions if someone is going to help you. Recently while being guided to the trailer ball (tagalong) the motion I was given for "come here and look-see if this is good enough" was the same as "keep coming your almost at the ball"' Luckily the drop receiver lined up with the trailer hitch... bang.
- Install trailer backup lights before you need them one night
- Use a battery lantern to mark that big thing your going to hit at night
- Watch the trans temp gauge.
- Buy bright colored radios --- so you can find the one your spouse uses when she is fed up and hurls it into the woods
