Well I ran my truck down to empty on the DEF gage to see the warnings and then drove it another 60 miles or so pulling my trailer to Greenville SC for our Thanksgiving holiday trip. I got the DEF Low Refill soon message but I never did get the 200 miles to speed limited to 5 MPH message. When I stopped in at the Pilot station to fill up, I put 5.546 gallons in the tank so I'd say it was about empty. I got the warning when the needle was exactly over top of the empty mark on the gage. Level continued to decrease and was about one needle width below empty when I filled up. I'll update my MPG figure tonight when I get home, but it was less that 600 MPG DEF on this tank.

One must have confidence in regards to the DEF gauge. :D

Hey Ken......not sure if you saw this other post of mine, but here's a partial copy & paste :

In any event......you'll have plenty of warning as to when it's getting low....

I have a pic somewhere on my laptop stating 8 miles to de-rate. That's edgy. Oo.

So, in order, since I got, the truck I've gotten 764 MPG, then 649 MPG, Now 580 MPG DEF.. My truck tows the RV most of the time. I don't drive it to work etc , but it does get significant miles put on sightseeing at our destinations with the RV. I suppose I would get that warning sometime Greg but I put in 5.546 gallons and it hadn't started warning me yet. Does it wait until its empty? Ken Irwin

I have traveled, going on memory, anywhere from 50--80 miles between the initial message and the 200 mile-to-derate message.

If I am reading this right, around 600 mpg on the DEF, with a tank capacity of 5+ gallons, or about 3,000 miles per 5 gallon fill. Is that right?

Depends on how hard it's working........I'm at about 4500 miles of just a short commute and grocery getting, gauge is just under a half tank.

We used 2 1/2 + gal in 450 miles pulling our trailer. Finally "check engine light came on" Dealer advised me found code P229F "3550 failed NOX sensor". After checking DEF fluid, & DEF injector, they replaced rear NOX sensor and they sent me on my way. DEF consumption dropped by half or more.
