After my last trip south camping and towing my trailer I was fed up with the noise leval inside the cab. Acutally I've been fed up with for a long time and have been using my Scout more and more because it's quieter. I had some left over Quiet Car sound proofing, about 3. 5 gal and used it on the floor and the rear wall of the cab in my Dodge. I'm now getting a reading of 79db on the A scale, thats a 7 db drop from the way it was. I'm also running a mud tyre that helps with more cab noise.

So now I can listen to the radio, music at low levers at 65mph and actually injoy the ride! I'ts almost as quite as my wife's 94 CTD (74db).

Sound Proofing?

Staight pipes save lives.

I like the stereo effect of my twin stacks. ;)

Open the rear window and

Tugboat was actually going to pay $$ to have me close the rear window on a trip through WV :-laf

I pulled the carpet and dinamated the floor and back wall. Then I put Jute down under the carpet and replaced the plastic weather guard behind the door panels with dinamat. The doors made the biggest difference. One Dinamat car kit was enough to do entire floor and doors.

we armurthaned 1/4 in (same as rinoline) the entire floor of my buddys 3rd gen, and it did not make much of a difference. dose not seem to block sound very well ????

Ok, here goes, all of the other stuff adds about 1/2 inch and is flammable. The Quiet car is non flammable and at maximum performance is only 3 mm thick (. 125"). This stuff is made to quiet the inside of your truck and it works. And it matches the colur of the Dodge gray, and is non toxic, cleans up like laytex paint. After curing/drying the weight for the 3. 5 gal of quite car is about 30 pounds. Good stuff aint cheap.

makes sense as that's not what it's designed to do. I'm very happy w/ my Raam Audio "raammat" that I just installed in the 98. not sure if it dampened quite as well as the lead sheet I had in my 97, but even w/ 135sqft, of it in there, I'm probably a solid 200-300lbs lighter on sound deadener w/ this stuff! LOL!

Damplifier

The idea of a spray on substance has quite a bit of merit.

I chose the sticky sheet route however. The sheets are ~ 1. 5mm thick.

I used a product called Damplifier from www.secondskinaudio.com that reportedly has the best heat resistance of the rubberey aluminum sheets. I loved the stuff, but I agree, Good is not cheap. I used 180 square feet of damplifier sheet and a couple of sheets of closed cell foam. A little over $250 for the job but well worth it according to my ears!

Dang, Moab 4x4 put a 100 watt bulb in there and you could cook a 20lb turkey in 5 minutes :-laf

Looks like a nice job!

KO

And another thing, it's so quiet I now here the noise my G360 makes when I start rolling in 1st gear. Oh well, better to be ready for the rebuild than have it die suddenly. Only have 163K on it.

they all rattle pretty good when you lug 'em ;)

I thought everybody stuffed rags around the transmission under the shift boot! ;) I did it on my '97, and my 98 came w/ a handfull of rags under the boot :p

In this (awesome!) thread in the conversions forum, I found this link to sound deadening material, if anyone wants to know
