I installed a #11 plate and 3K gov springs in a 97 215 HP 5 speed and Gauges. The most boost I can get is 26 psi and the pyro (post turbo) only gets to about 800*F. I slid the plate and the AFC all the way FWD and lossend the AFC spring to get the 26 psi boost. The truck pulls fairly hard to about 2500 rpm then it falls on its face. It smokes a little on the bottom end but none on the Top. I feel something may be wrong. I also checked that the lever is hitting the nose on the cam plate, which it is!

Maybe I did not tighten the Gov springs enough. I measured the distance before I removed all the stock springs and set the hight to the same spec. . 060"

I will check fuel pressure after I buy a new banjo bolt.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Malcolm

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? I know this sounds over simplified but sometimes the simple things are the problem. Just my 02. cents worth.

Good luck Dave Gardner. :)

power

The fuel filter and pressure will get checked asap. Not sure when the fuel filter was changed out. Records are unkown. Friend just bought the truck. It was fairly gutless before the mods.

Thanks for the replys.

If there are no maintenance records and no experience with it then you need to check many things.

fuel pressure

air cleaner

intercooler hose clamps

torn or worn boot on the intercooler pipes

turbo waste gate

full throttle on pump

If that doesn't find it then check the intercooler for leaks. Check timing.

Did you check the AFC housing alignment to the fuel plate? It you get it cocked, the AFC foot will hangup on the fuel plate and you will not get any performance.

Another thought is you got a leak in the boost sense line that leads to the AFC.

My last thought is a blown diaphragm in the AFC.

The same result is if the AFC foot doesn't move forward you wont get significant fueling.

Uh, you did install the brass boost elbow?

Thanks for the replys. I did check everything, twice. Yes I have the boost line hooked up and the elbow installed. I know I am not getting fuel as the Pyro will not go pst 800*F post turbo. I still have to chekc fuel psi. I checked the Diaphram and it is good. I just found out that the dealer had just changed the sending unit in the fuel tank and that they had pinched off the reutrn line causing the return line near the motor to split wide open. They did this about a month ago. They had to change the lift pump at this time. I am going to go through the fuel delivery system next.

Thanks again. .

Overflow valve?

I forgot to ask on changing the overflow valve. Now that you mention fuel return problems it is even more suspect.

overflow valve

Yes I am going to get an overflow valve for this creature. Is there a Hi performance one available? or does the stocker one do the trick?

I would play with the gov springs and see if that makes a difference. I had to adjust mine about 7-8 times before I found the sweet spot. I noticed the same thing as you when I first installed the GSK, truck ran OK but had no power. Don't even worry about your stock measurements, loosen the nuts all the way and re-tighten by feel, you can barely feel the first click. Go down two clicks on each side to start with and see how it runs, then go more if you have to. Mine is at 3 clicks and runs great! Hope this helps.

springs

It may be the spings still also, I noticed a bit of throttle bounce at an idle. If the fuel system checks out I will adjust the springs looser. They are fairly tight now. I did notice an increase in idle rpms also.

Thanks again

Malcolm;

You do live in a nice place. Been years since I was there, but enjoyed every moment. I still wonder how Mt Washington ended up on your rock. ?

The over flow valve is the same for all applications. It will serve both stock & high performance.

If your idle rpm went up after the springs you may be a click or two tight.

The Rock!

Thanks John, I am going to back off the springs then turn them in two to three click and try that. After searching the TDR that seems to be the best starting point.

I just moved back to the Rock after living in Alberta for six years. Mt Washington is a great local ski/skidoo hill. Has quite a few cabins on it now.

found it!

Well the lift pump was toast. Only had 12-13 psi at idle and it would drop as I reved it up. I changed the fuel filter and cleaned the screen and the pressure did not come up. I changed the lift pump and now have good pressures. The overflow valve was changed out a few months ago also. I also re adjusted the springs to three clicks down from the screw being flush. The idle fell about 100-200 rpm. I adjusted the low idle screw and all is well. The plate is back in the middle position and truck pulls good now.

Thanks for all the help.

Malcolm

idle speed

What would cause the idle to change after a while. The idle fell to about 400 rpm then would raise up to 1000-1100 rpm. It will hunt between these rpms for a while. It is a 5-speed truck. Do I need to tighten the springs one more click then back off the idle screw?

Thanks
