i agree with TFucili, he may beat up the hill, but you'll beat him in the long run. he will be F. O. R. D!!!! he has a new truck, go out and get that year cummins, then he'll see your tail lights.

A lot of the difference is the way the v8 will run vs the I6.

My Ford vs my Dodge, stock, the Ford is considerably quicker, but the Dodge has more balls while towing. The Ford does 'OK', but the mileage is way off. Depending on which program he has, he could be anywhere from 350rwhp/650rwtq, to 450rwhp/750rwtq.

i would like to see that dyno page for that!! i have seen many 6. 0no's dyno and never in the mid 400 without drugs! most that are stock only push 280 or so to the rear and the "stock" with programmers only make it to the mid to upper 300's... ... . i think the ones in the 400's. . they go boom! lol

I had not seen this thread before tonight.

The simple answer to the original poster's question, already answered by many others, is the Cummins engine, particularly the 12 valve, is a low rpm high torque truck motor that will run a million miles.

A 6. 0 Ferd and other V8 diesels are high rpm horsepower motors. Your friend's sick o Ferd with it's higher rpm capability, lower differential gearing, and more gears in the automatic transmission will out accelerate our Rams every time, especially when modified with a black box. His sick o Ferd has 350 rated horsepower to your old Ram's 200 or so stock. When approaching a grade he's got his foot in it winding it to peak horsepower, burning fuel like crazy, and shortening the already short life of his temporary engine.

If you continue traveling and pulling with him you'll eventually have to drop your toad vehicle and go back and get his Ferd with a chain. He'll be whining to Ferd before long for a new engine under warranty and you can give him a ride back and forth to the Ferd dealer in your old Dodge.

I've pulled trailers alongside both V8 diesels. They'll out accelerate a Dodge but unless they're wound tight they can't hold speed on a grade. Ignore your buddy. You'll get the last laugh.

I agree, my best friend and I both pull toyhaulers quite a bit, he has an 06 F250 with the 6. 0 and I with my truck. I pull a larger toyhauler that weighs quite a few thousand pounds more and I eat his lunch on about every hill we come to. He does have a programmer and other stuff, but he still cannot keep pace on large hills. Not saying they are good pullers, but he needs to wind his out pretty good, while I keep mine around 2400 and just pull. Scotty

Need more air and see if timing is set to high. Timing will make a big different in pull and heat. What tires are you running?? if over size that will make your gear to high. There is a lot to check. I thank you have over done it.
