The batteries in my 2003 lasted until the fall of 07. My mechanic found one was near dead during the anual fall checkup prior to winter. I had no idea there was an issue as it started fine etc.

I replaced the pair of them with no particular emphisis on brand. No further issues.

Mine are still going strong with no acid leakage or corrosion yet. Wifes '04 Hemi Durango, which uses the same type battery, was corroding and causing slow starts a few weeks back. Replaced with Die Hard Platinum (made by Odyssey), they are pricey, but thats what will go in my truck when the time comes.

I replaced mine (2003 built in late 2002) in November as they started to lag. 7 years and 185K which is pretty good service life.

04. 5 with 110k just replaced mine. They were just starting to get a little tired.

04. 5 with 105k and if I keep it plugged in (with battery blankets), the batteries will probably hang in for one more winter. I was going to replace them this year but I chose to get a new bow instead. :D

03 built 9/03, 97,000 miles. Started well at +5F the other morning... . Still have original headlight and fog light bulbs too...

Had my stockers in since I purchased the rig in 04 it currently has 137,000 on the clock and runs a 95 gph fass in the WA and northern UT winters and has not had a problem yet. I have been thinking of changing them out only as preventative maintenance.

Is there any way of testing the the true condition of the batteries?

Good question. I test batteries daily at work but for the DIY guy at home there may be a way-

I will have to find out what the amperage draw is from the starter while its cranking the engine some day when my truck is at work.

Knowing that may put us on track to a quick test procedure.

Maybe someone here already knows what the starter draws??

If so I can give you the test to do as long as you have a volt meter.

I tested my sons batteries (04. 5 original) the other day, they are 750CCA each and one tested bad yet the truck starts fine. This condition puts added load on the alternator and you wouldn't know it. he will replace the pair not just the bad one.

I still have the original batteries in my '05. The truck still starts fine however, I will replace them this summer as a maintenance item. Ed B

Has anyone tried "Max Start" batteries from Wally World? They have a really good warrantee and you can always find a store. I recall about 4 years they were rated number one by consumer reports.

Still running the originals in my late (Feb. 2003) 03 with no sign of a problem but planning a rather long (for me ) trip this May and will replace them before I leave. Larry

Have an 04 with 104,000 miles. Purchased in Nov. 03. Same batts. Temp in S. Texas has been in the low 30's. Starts great. Have a xtra boat batt. Carry it just in case.

there are battery testers in reach of the DIYer. Most have a resistive grid that provides the load and a meter to measure voltage. Sunpro makes mine and it has worked well for me.
