rough idle and cutting out "UPDATED HELP!!"

my truck started idling rough after starting and does it a while (hot or cold eng) after starting until i drive 20 min or so it also has cut out twice now in a week i installed an ez @3 weeks ago maybe it??

I have replaced filter,no codes and will check feul pressure tommorrow. as read in other post i tried turning on a/c today at a light it quit but it idled up to @800rmp (@100 more than normal) anything above idle is fine no loss of power or anything just a rough idel and the cutting out that scares me.

do ya think i need an fca i have 160k?

if so is that a napa deal or dealer/cummins item?

how much are they?

how hard to replace?

for cheap and easy i'll TRY it unless ya think it's somthing else

The FCA is an easy change out,just 3 torks bolts holding it in. Buy a quality bit,you don't want to damage those lil suckers. It is a Bosch part so Bosh,Dodge or Cummins can help you out.

BTW fuel pressure @pump was 18psi at idle cant remember what it was when i installed my lp system(homemade pusher) wanna say it was 22psi but both pumps checked out fine fill filter canister in 2-3 sec.
 
ok finnally got a code p0193 high rail psi and cel. truck was very very hard to start this morn then trying to leave town it would not start had to give it a "quick" shot of starting fluid (i know BAD eng was warm) but fired right up and was fine still rough idle. code and cel remain so now what?

could it be EZ (low boost fueling all the way up)?

FCA?

rail psi relief (if so anybody got a cummins #)?

really gotta have my truck rolling by tue.

I'm having similar problem, mine has never died out. I'm also looking for answers... . At idle it idles rough to point my truck it shakes head rest on seats, and if you bring it to about 900rpm it gets worse, and if you go to1000 rpm or higher it feels nice and smooth. Full power no loss. have not had anything checked yet has done this since I bought it 9/2011 have banks IQ did it before I installed it. 06' megacab 4x4 5. 9 auto. #@$%!
 
Disconnect the EZ, very quick to do, then you will eliminate or confirm it. I will bet it's the EZ... Just realized this is an old, old post.

Trino, possible bad injector(s) ,fca (fuel control acuator), pressure releif(release) valve. You need to see if you have any codes, injectors and fca sometimes don't throw a code. Injectors can be checked out.
 
I came across your reply on confirming a possible bad FCA. You refered to disconnecting the EZ ?? not sure what you are refering to. Our 2005 at 229K miles just developed a hard start and a 'miss' at idle and looking for clues.

Recently had a miss at start up with white smoke. After a few moments it would run good. If shut off after operating temp was reached and started again after 10 minutes it would cut out 3 cylinders for a minute then go back to running normal. No loss of power or fuel mileage. Code showed it shut off rear cylinder bank. Found bad solenoid on #4 injector, replaced with a good solenoid and engine runs normally again.

Trent, gets better today, got a p0299 after a run and restart, no power of course and barely idles with a lot of gray smoke.

From here on in the story gets ugly. Pulled out at a light and suddenly had noise and black smoke. From then on barley idled, got it to a shop and after checking all the normal stuff they pulled the head and #1 cylinder eroded badly and # walls are scored. They say probabaly bad injectors. Not pretty, less than 200 miles from when it first started to idle rough, not much warning.

Hey ryecreek, are you still looking for a solution to this issue? I've been having the same thing for a day or two. I think aftermarket fuel pumps are supplying too much psi to the high pressure injection pump (CP3 in mine). I think in an earlier post I saw that you have an aftermarket fuel pump. How is it routed? Straight to the CP3 high pressure injector pump?
