We installed Yukon kit maybe 8 years ago and love them.

Back with some updates, got the races pressed in the hubs, without any issues today, 12ton press didn’t have any issue with the races, but I did put them in the freezer overnight, thanks for that advise Wayne.

Now my issue is with the Yukon yoke as you see in the pictures, the u-joint and yoke almost measures exact. My caliper measures it out to only a few thousandths different, but the shims I’m supposed to use are .80 thousandths. Which could mean the u-joint might not fit the axle yoke. I did buy the spicers u-joints from Geno’s, so I don’t think it to be an issue. Will the seals inside the bearing caps seat to the inside, flush with base? That might get me the .80 thousandths I need to use the shims provided.

What happens if you very lightly clamp the joint in a vise? You might get come compression on the cup seals.

Thats exactly what I'm thinking, I thought about using the press to see if it will, but I dont want to lose the virgin seat, if that's the case. I want to prep the Yukon yokes prior to tear down, to save the time the truck is down. But I'll have to add the shims that will put it .80 thousandths off, if thats not the case, and have to press out the u-joint out again, if it doesn't fit properly.

So I did them, assuming just that, and it seems to have worked, see picture. It seems to be tight, but no rough movement.

If you can move it by hand, you’ll be fine. Did you pack a little extra EP grease in the cups?

I did not, don't know what grease they used, and it was well greased, too late now.

This is the grease I'm on the fence over, I've always liked Sta Lube products and it is available here in Vegas. Any amsoil dealers in Vegas, I'm thinking about trying amsoil grease?

Thanks Wayne, I have some being delivered to the local NAPA store here. My thought on the Amzoil brand is for the consistancy of the product. You go into a auto parts store now, there is 15 off the wall types, colors and applications. Some stores carry different Brands/types, but Sta Lube specific high temp I linked to, is hard to find, and is the reason I chose NAPA. They were supossed to have it in stock, but it ended up in a two day free delivery.

I did the passenger side today and what a job it was. I got real lucky with the unit bearing coming off easy, thank God. I changed up some steps and direction, or should I say lack of direction. The spindal bolts I reversed, with the allen bolts going through the back to front with the nuts on the front of the spindal. I did this because the round portion of the spindal interfered with the socket when on the nut. I checked for clearance with the rotor and it looked good, assembled as noted and rotated the rotor, and it works, any opinions? I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

It’s been a few years, but I think that’s how mine were installed according to the directions. Maybe I’ll find some pics.

AH64ID (John I think) the tool you recommended just fit, if it would have been just an 1/8th shallower, it wouldn't have worked. Thanks for the tip, as it worked great, and allowed me to get the full torque on the locking spanner nut. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures, but I was busy with the install.

I still have to install the locking mechanisms though, as I ran out of time. Part of the reason the install was delayed, was due to tool purchases with several trips needed. I really had a though time with the ears to the axle shaft U-Joints. Keeping them as strait as possible, during the pressing out of them, it was because the casting wasn't equal on each side, which made it a chore. The 12 ton press wasn't the problem, it broke them loose with a bang. The ears ended up bending inwards, I didn't notice at first and pressed in the long shaft U-Joint and found the clip groove partially covered on one side. I finally managed to straiten it out (THE HARD WAY) and got the clip in. The short shaft did the same thing, but this time I was ready for it. I reversed the old U-Joint caps in one side only, so not to egg out the hole, and beat them strait with a small sledge hammer, It worked great, the U-Joints went in smooth and true.

I have to say Yukons instructions are the pits, If it wasn't for a three part Youtube video, I would have had to wait for tech support. I linked the three part video's below, I didn't approve of some of his methods but he did get it done.

Gig you get the grease yet.... Amsoil warehouse is only 3 blocks down from your job .

Update on the install. I had to tear down the passenger side again due to the dust seal being installed backwards, behind the spindal. I watched the videos I linked, and realized I had it backwards. The assembly tears down so easy, its realy nice that it only takes about an 45 minutes, unlike the unit bearing. But I corrected the seal and re-torqued everything again. I installed the Hardcore Lockers and tested operation. I test drove the truck around the block several times, breaking in the new breaks and rotor. I ran it, with them locked and free, while listening for unusual noises. Then I took the truck on the full test while 4X4ing in the desert with them locked and free. I jacked up the front end and re-inspected every thing, all seems to be good.
