I have an 04. 5 and I just received a post card from the dealer that processed my purchase when I bought the Ram new. I have had the Ram serviced at a different dealer because they are closer. Interesting that the recall notice is a tacky post card with information related to my vehicle HAND WRITTEN. I checked the web site and my VIN has had this recall out since April 2009.

This has got to be a marketing ploy. I did have work done on my steering box back in 2005 under warranty, but not after 2008 as indicated was required for the recall. I WILL NOT BE GOING IN TO THIS DEALER for this phony recall. #@$%!

By the way the dealer is LARRY MILLER DODGE in Peoria, AZ. My advice is to stay away.

Is it a coincidence I received this in the mail while Toyota is taking a beating on their recall?

It is legit!!! they are trying to make sure all the recalls are getting done.

I had this recall about a year ago, and drove it into the service bay, the tech looked under the front end, and in 15 seconds told me mine wasn't affected by the recall.

Like PFlory, I showed up, and was out in 15 seconds.

Today,I found this concerning trucks that were recalled.

This is from the "Service Procedure" bulletin.

Like it says above,

> If the part number cast into the bottom side of the pitman arm is 52106836AB, or is not legible:

> Steering linkage without a white part number tag, replace the inner drag link joint and pitman arm. Continue with Step 7 of this procedure.

> Steering linkage with a white part number tag, replace the pitman arm. Continue with Step 8 of this procedure.

After seeing this, I went out and looked at the pitman arm. Sure enough, 52106836AB was clearly stamped on the casing.

The way I read this is that my truck still has some unresolved issues with Chrysler.

So, what do you guys think would be the best way to get this matter resolved?

Take it back to the dealer along with the alldata printout. Make them show you the documentation from Dodge and see if it matches. Then have them look at the pitman arm again. I had mine done last summer its stamped with the AA

What it boils down to is this... ... ... ... if you did the upgraded steering kinkage early on you may have gotten it partially done. IE no pitman arm to match or you got the smaller clamp for the steering stabilizer that may slip,or if early enough it may have an improperly heat treated end that may fracture.
Hi Bob,

I am a little confused about the H46 vs the H36 recall.

I upgraded my own steering when it first came out and also bought the pitman arm. In Feb 09 I took it in for the H36 recall as they would not sell me the H36 parts to fix it on my own.

The H36 was for deffective steering parts in the service kit so what is the H46 about?

So the dealer replaced my steering rods and ends, pitman arm and stabilizer shock recently on warranty.

Does that mean that I have the latest pitman arm and now my truck is safe????

If you do some digging on here you'l see a few threads about this RE-CALL from about a year ago. I had posted Pic's showing the "Bad" parts. If you had the steering linckage updated to the 08 system (Wich is all you can get from Dodge today the old system that your truck came with is discontinued) and it was an early kit then the re-call applies to you. If you look at the Tie rod end on the steering box the good one will have a slight bend in the ball sockett end if it's stight then you have a bad one. Also if you can put a 1/2/ in wrench on the steering dampener mounting bolts then that has to be replaced as well. The up date kit will greatly improve your handeling of the truck and help your tires last longer as the Toe in adjustment does not change as the truck bounces as it did with the older system. Hope this helps

Click on the link Dodge - Contact Us it show mine has the recall.

I'm proud to say that after running my VIN the only recall that hasn't been done is the out of park alarm recall that seems so popular. As the saying goes, they will have to pry my truck from my cold, dead fingers before they do that recall...

I know, I even posted pics and info myself when learning of the defect on the early kits. Whats not clear to me is the H36 vs H46 recall.

I had the H36 recall done to my early kit and have the bigger U bolts and curved tie rod but now am receiving in the mail an H46 notice.

Just a guess but maybe its for the pitman arm that "was-not" but should have been included in the H36 recall.

Just got done reading all the replies on the steering linkage dilemma and would like a little more guidance to get my rig running safely without feeling 'I'm gonna crash. ' I've just returned from a long road trip w/trailer in tow and felt very uncomfortable with the front end; felt like the rig wanted to go off the road a number of times especially on some of these roads that slant to the outside a little. Not all roads are level, I understand, but this expensive rig should not feel this way. I posted this same claim under 'white knuckles... ' about a month ago and still confused about what to do. Should I get a new and heavier duty steering shaft/dampner? bracket? after market tie rods?
Home and safe for now and not ready to hit the road until I get this corrected.
thanks-
frank

The issue with the pitment arm is that with the updated steering kit the cross bar (the one that connects each wheel to the other) can come in contact with the pitment arm under extream suspention movement, if you really bounce the truck hard. The replacement pitment arm does not have that "S" bend in it as you can see in the pics.

Ok. I am beat after a long day but IIRC the h36 was for the trucks built with the new style steering(early version). The h46 is to correct any of the upgraded steering on any year 3rd gen
