I have the super hitch. You will not be sorry,it's one bad-a~~ hitch. I really like the optional frame mounted camper tie downs. { bet Reese don't have em }I tow a boat or horse trailer so towing extension integrity was the #1 determining factor of my choice. I am also looking at the Arctic Fox 1150 camper. I checked one out in person, very nice!!It had the large slide out and the bathroom was the best set up I've ever seen in a slide in camper. I think this will be the one I plop down the long green on,they are also built here in the pacific northwest-I smell a road trip. #ad

Hey Mike, Glad to hear someone has seen this thing besides me. The bathroom with the sliding shower door was what sold me. Plus the capacitites (lpg/water/2batteries etc) were great. Mine is on order, but being in Florida, it's going to be awhile. Plus I have 1500. 00 in freight, you will have none!!!! I see you have the hitch, could not tell from your message if you HAD the tie downs or just LIKE the tie downs. They look great to me, and Arctic Fox people recomend them, so I'm sure I will order a set with the super hitch. They have 2 kinds, Spring Loaded and not, which ones would you get????

Alex:

Yeah, I'm aware about not adding in my tongue weight. That was my point -- even with my smaller Lance 1030, I'll already be over my GVWR. You'll be WAY over in your Artic Fox. Just prepare the truck properly, and drive sanely, and you'll be okay.

I HAD to go with the shorter Lance because by this time next year, I'll be towing a 26' enclosed car trailer weighing close to 10k lbs. It'll be a miracle to keep the tongue weight at 800 lbs... . some fancy balancing in the trailer will be required. And thank goodness for anti-sway systems.

The Artic Fox looks like a nice unit, but I just prefer the floorplan and interior trim of my Lance better. #ad

Still, I wanna check 'em out in person sometime.

Altexp,
Sorry for the delayed response,I have trouble finding time to fire up this time eating machine. #ad

I do not yet have the tie-downs,but I will get them when I purchase the camper. Have not finished looking around yet,I think the arctic fox is going to be hard to top in my opinion. As far as the tie-downs go I would go with the spring loaded units, sooner or later you will drive over terrain that will get some monkey motion going on between the truck and camper, something has got to give. (better the spring than your camper!!!) Also I never cared much for the happy jack mount that bolts to the front edge of the bed. It is always stickin' out there just waiting to snag your jacket or arm. I would much rather pull a little pin and remove the camper tie-down when not needed and not have to look at some bracket hangin' off the side of my truck. #ad

How 'bout a Freightliner. Don't think you'll be happy with the 3500 with this load. An 8. 3 would be nice too!

Does anybody know what the ratings of the 3500 axles are? I weighed my truck/camper/trailer/car on Friday, and it came out to 17,320 lbs. Front axle was 3820, rear was 8140, and the trailer was 5360.

I'm concerned that Alex is going to end up over his rating, what with his camper weighing probably 500 lbs more than mine. Maybe I'm wrong, and I hope I am...

Oh, and with the Reese Titan Class V and my Equalizer Hitch load balancing/anti-sway setup, the trailer towed flawlessly.
